Apple’s iPod Shuffle Sucks

Posted in Apple, iPod, iPod Shuffle by Elliott Back on March 11th, 2009.

Apple’s new iPod shuffle sports a nice 4Gb of space for just $79, but you’d be a fool to buy it. Why? It no longer has any controls or buttons on the iPod itself, relegating those critical controls like “play/pause” or “next/previous track” to a new set of proprietary earbuds:

Small gets smaller.
The new iPod shuffle is amazingly small and even easier to use. The controls are now conveniently located on the earbud cord. It’s so easy, you can use it with your eyes closed.

So any shuffle buyers will be stuck with Apple’s crappy $1 headphones that come with it. Or, they can choose to shell out $79 more for a pair of Apple iPhone In-Ear Stereo headphones that will work in the shuffle. Either way, a losing affair.

Yep sucks horribly. I bought one in January, by June it was malfunctioning with volume changing randomly, songs skipping, the annoying talk over feature getting stuck over and over. All around a piece of junk. I read that sweat and water gets into the in headphone controls and messes it up.

this is the first time i’ve complained about any product i’ve bought but apple can lickm on the 3rd gen shuffle. the 3rd gen shuffle is the worst piece of **** music player i’ve ever owned. the product hasn’t worked right from day 1. complete waste of money. it’ll sometimes work for 15 minutes, sometimes not at all, sometimes an hour. it depends how you hold your genitals in relation to the headphones angle of dangle relative to the relative humidity divided by your traveling or sedentary speed. in other words, there’s no apparent logic to its operation, or lack thereof. if the wind blows the wrong way while you’re taking a piss the piece of **** will quit working. i wouldn’t care about the proprietary headphones if the freakin’ product worked. the 2nd gen shuffle was a freakin’ engineering marvel compared to this disaster. i’d rather have a sony walkman cassette player. i won’t buy apple again for a long time.

Just got a shuffle as a gift. I wish I could downgrade. What was nice with controls on ipod was that I could also hook it up to my stereo with existing cables. Sounds like i would need a new adapter to do so now…

Here is a thought… DON’T BUY IT!!! If all you people do is complain, then don’t buy the damn iPod! Buy an older one… ********!

What the heck I have way better things to invest in. You can’t use this thing without the stupid headphone. What a complete waste of money?

It doesn’t matter any which way. I want MY earphones to work with it and they won’t. Why would I buy something I can’t use my high end ear phones with? I’m surprised that Apple wouldn’t think that through before making it.

    • Chris says:

They did think it through… they want you to spend more money on accessories. This is Apple’s game.

You know, the controls aren’t that bad. It’s not like you actually need to use the complicated ones like rewind/go back all that much. And the ability to read you your playlists is pretty cool. I’m waiting for cheap 3rd party headphones (that wrap around something like my neck or outer ear.

    • ch says:

I think that’s the point of this article is that you can’t just use 3rd party headphones since the controls are in the ipods headphones wire themselves. How would you play or advance a song with 3rd party headphones when there aren’t any controls in their wire?

“I’m waiting for cheap 3rd party headphones”

idiot, obviously he means he’s waiting for 3rd party headphones THAT HAVE CONTROLS… Why would he be ‘waiting’ for normal 3rd party headphones?

        Idiot!!
