Family Blogging: A new type of blog
I’m planning to do something with this blog that I’ve never seen done before. Since WordPress allows multiple users / authors, I’ve added my entire family (Mother, Father, Two Sisters, and Brother) as authors on the blog. Rather than be just me blogging about myself, and whatever strikes my fancy, I want to get my whole family into it. This could extend as far as I want it, to grandparents in Canada, to cousins and aunts and uncles. So, as long as you are related to me and speak English, I’ll give you a blog account on this blog.
Some things I’d like to see from my family are:
Personal posts. I want to know what’s going on with my family–and they want to know, too. Everyone should be able to use the “Family” section of the blog to post their daily musings, lives, and whatnot.
Informative posts. My siblings and parents are pretty smart. Danielle can write about how the world would be better if everyone owned a copy of the OED, and Dad can post a short short every now and then. All the family has some datum to share.
Link posts. See something that catches your fancy, toss a link up. Since everyone’s got their quirks, we could get some neat links!
Now, the only problem I can see with this is continuity. Even though the blog will be written and moderated by me and my family, will we be able to keep all the different ideas and viewpoints separate? Who knows. I suppose good categorization will help; we’ll need to build a three to four level deep category tree so that we can get specific enough on topics to avoid polluting the navigation in breadth. But, I think it will be an interesting thing to do. The first “Family blog” I’ve heard of.
