56 RPC and RPC2 Services to Ping
Update: Merging Ensight’s list with my own produces the following massive set of 43 56 WordPress ping URLs. And, in my never-ending quest to find more urls for my blog to ping via XML-RPC and RPC2, I’ve came across a few more. Please remove http://thingamablog.sourceforge.net/ping.php from this list. This service is for Thingamablog users only. Non-thingamablog users are automatically banned, so pinging it is futile.
Thanks

The thingamablog ping has been moved to a seperate category which should clearly differentiate it from the list of other ping services.

List of RPC ping services
Useful — A list of RPC ping services.
…
on April 6th, 2005 at 1:53 am
Uh, that list is pretty useless in this form, isn’t it?
Yes, the base text is right, but many of those services’ links are not just their top domain name like rpc.technocrati.com. Unless i’m terribly misunderstanding how WP’s auto-ping feature reads RPC server lists, we have to copy/paste each of those urls or dig through the HTML of this page and do some regexp magic to extract the URLs from the link text. Is there a list of just the URLs outside of the anchor tag masking, a trick to import these links, or is this list just pointless?
on April 6th, 2005 at 2:47 am
How do you like that, Mr. Groth? I just added a custom field to my post and modified the autolinker to not link if that field is present with that particular value, so now you can copy and paste these RPC endpoints to your heart’s content! :-p

on April 30th, 2005 at 2:24 am
Hey Elliot,
Do you think this list is still valid with all the new services ping-o-matic added since this article was written?
I’m trying to find a comprehensive list of all the ping services ping-o-matic uses… their site isn’t helpful.
on April 30th, 2005 at 3:21 am
As it says on their frontpage, Pingomatic pings:
It’s right on the front of http://pingomatic.com/ … not sure why you missed it?
on April 30th, 2005 at 2:32 pm
C’mon Elliot,
I’m not that stupid. According to http://pingomatic.com/blog/2004/12/10/new-front-page/ they edited their homepage and I’m not convinced that the services you just listed are their ONLY ones.
Thus I ask, is this list comprehensive? or is ping-o-matic showing just the larger, well-known feeds on their homepage to reduce “clutter”?
on April 30th, 2005 at 4:21 pm
That’s from back in December from when they switched layouts to this new horizontal style. I think that Pingomatic is only pinging those “well-known” feeds–but send Matt an email. He’d know better.
on May 2nd, 2005 at 8:32 pm
Nice list. Ill be using it!
on May 5th, 2005 at 11:24 pm
How would we put this list into wordpress?
on May 6th, 2005 at 6:25 am
We are creating a RSS Ping service (similar to Pingomatic), and we are adding servers to ping. We would like that you provide the required information to access your ping server via RPC: ping URL, PATH, METHOD and other fields. If you have any documentation page with this information we could obtain the info. from it, please send us the URL. We will be pleased to add your server to our list.
on May 6th, 2005 at 10:31 am
Hey Christina–just copy whatever URLs you see, and paste them in admin->options wherever the pingomatic one is currently sitting. But, only do this if you know you want to… pingomatic is good enough for most ppl.
on May 12th, 2005 at 2:17 pm

on May 13th, 2005 at 8:15 pm
Why would one not want to add more services to ping? More services equals more exposure right? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I’m just now getting interested in blogs.
on May 19th, 2005 at 10:22 am
Just curious, wouldn’t it take a crayz long time to ping all those directories every time you post? For me it’s a pretty big difference between pinging just ping-o-matic or not pinging anyone at all. What is everyone elses experiences on this?
on May 21st, 2005 at 3:33 am
I have added all. Will be interesting to see how it goes. I just wonder if there is any conflict in pinging all + ping o matic or if that would be considered as flooding?
on May 21st, 2005 at 3:02 pm
thank for your job!
on May 21st, 2005 at 11:50 pm
Nice list thanks buddy.
on May 22nd, 2005 at 2:11 am
I don’t think there would be a conflict with pingomatic, but you could remove the ones that you know pingomatic (which has a nearly always growing pinglist anyway) pings. Really, this list is just for people who want a list, for some reason. Practically, unless you’re not an American, pingomatic is all you need.
on May 23rd, 2005 at 11:10 am
Cool list, thanks a bunch Elliott!
on June 1st, 2005 at 7:57 pm
Thanks for publishing the list. I have used a bookmark to the Pingomatic results page for a while. Then, one day I noticed that they had added a few new places to ping. I had to redo the submission. No big deal, but of course I felt like I was missing out on something.
Thanks for publishing this list.

Could you please remove the reference to the XML-RPC service on Blogbot.dk?
I don’t know why it was added in the first place. The service is only available to users who have signed up in advance. Other users are blocked. In order to sign up, the blog must be written in Danish and meet certain other criteria. So I don’t think it is appropriate to include in this list.
Currently I block several hits to the XML-RPC service per second. This is consuming quite a lot of resources.
Thanks.

Supposely, it will drive up the traffic of the website. What’s the point of that though? Well, maybe it will look good on the counter? please note that http://www.blogsnow.com no longer accepts pings.
Actually /massively/ pinging BlogsNow will result in blacklisting the spamming blogs and domains. It applies if the same organisation pings more than hundred blogs a day. Most spammers do thousands an hour and most real bloggers below ten a day. So it’s a pretty clean cut between real and spam.
