The themes used by the entertainment industry to woo American minds are great indicators of the state of our society. By the caliber of the shows we watch, we can effectively gauge the maturity of our own minds.

Take, for example, current popular entertainment. CBS is running a show called CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) which is currently in its fifth season. That there are also at least three new spinoff shows, CSI: Miami, CSI: New York, and CSI: Academy, speaks to the popularity of this CSI show. CSI is all about solving mysterious crimes. A group of investigators get together to work the most gruesome Las Vegas crimes cases they can find. Any unsolved brutality is sent to their office—in the city of sin, there’s a lot.

Believe it or not, we can recognize the lack of peace in America just by the presence of this TV show. If America was a country of peace, there would be no CSI. Crime wouldn’t be entertainment, it would be non-existent. How can you entertain a group of citizens who no longer understand what it is to commit crime with images of crime and violence?

When society transcends a concept, I believe it will fall from the popular entertainment media. Of course, this is just a rough, unscientific idea, but I think that you get the idea. Because of violence in the entertainment media, I can conclude that the world is not ready for peace. When it is, we’ll find mind-games, puzzles, mysteries, and love stories much more interesting.
