Google Pulls Accelerator

Posted in Google by Elliott Back on May 10th, 2005.

Plagued with problems, Google has given up and pulled the Web Accelerator “product.” Note that this is the second time recently that Google drew something offline. A couple months ago, Google X got slashed, too. Here’s the cop out on their website:

Thank you for your interest in Google Web Accelerator. We have currently reached our maximum capacity of users and are actively working to increase the number of users we can support.

For those who want to experience the torture of the GWA, there’s a mirror:

Update:

Another reason Google may have pulled the GWA stems from their relationship with China and its ability to bypass the Great Firewall. Since they’re officially moving into China, releasing a product which the Chinese government will hate is not a wise move. I only wonder why they don’t think before releasing new betas.
