Speakeasy DSL rocks

Posted in Deals & Savings by Elliott Back on June 25th, 2005.

So, I finally got internet, and I got it throught Speakeasy. Not only do they install to any major telephone anywhere in the us, ship you a modem you get free after $99 rebate, offer no installation charge and the first two months at $19.99, have hardcore gamer and hosting packages, but they also have absolutely great customer service.

When my installation didn’t work the night I got the service, I made two calls, both of which were answered and resolved in minutes. I was able to find out first that the service was scheduled to activate by 7 PM–in 20 minutes. When at 7:05 it still didn’t work, I called again. The technician told me that QWest had failed to install the loop, and I emailed my installation co-ordinator, Todd Voelker, the next day from work. By the time I got home, the issue was completely resolved.

That’s what I call good service.

Speakeasy is not what it seems to be...I thought they were great at first too. They do have great customer service, but they will sell you anything and not tell you what it costs until you rack up the money. I have had speakeasy broadband now for 3 months and my bill is over $1,000. They promised rebates that have never been sent and the first month was supposedly free, but they neglected to tell me that I was too far from the central office and that my line would never hold up at any kind of constant speed. So the conveniently told me I needed a lower speed IDSL and charged me for installation, which they didn't tell me either. My speed is so low now, I can't even get voice to go over it and stay consistent, so had to get that from Bellsouth. It's been a horrible mess with them and I'm about ready to complain to the Better Business Bureau.....beware, things aren't always as pretty as they seem.
