Fantastic (Crap-tastic) Four?

Posted in Movies by Elliott Back on July 6th, 2005.

So, tonight I got to see an exclusive pre-screen of Fantastic 4: The Movie. I’ll leave all the details to IMDB, but I’ll give you some juicy impressions.

First, getting in to see it was interesting. I had gotten four tickets from someone at Amazon.com to go see it, so I got two co-workers and a friend together and met them at the theatre. There, they told me I couldn’t enter if I carried my camera phone, and I couldn’t put it back in the car because I walked. I ended up giving it to a nice AMC lady who returned it after the show with a sticky with my name on it. All the way, my coworker was obsessing about Ioan Gruffudd who plays Mr. Fantastic. Personally, I like Michael Chiklis (The Thing) better, althought Chris Evans (The Human Torch) is also pretty cute!

The plot is predictable from viewing the trailer alone: the Fantastic four are conducting experiments in outer space when Julian McMahon (Doctor Doom) and Jessica Alba (The Invisible Woman) get distracted by each other. A solar storm comes out of no where, imbues all five with special powers, which they then spend 30 minutes “discovering.” Then there’s some internal strife, and a fight with a villian. The end.

Does that seem a little … vacant? Yup–you got it!! The movie is totally eye-candy. There’s no real plot, no great acting, some terrible lines, and nothing to think about. But, it’s fairly pretty, and the graphics are excellent. If you like an action movie, this might get you through, although it’s a little thin.
