Why “Algorithms” are Good, or, Why Shelley WAS right, or, Another way that Bloglines sucks
Take a look at today’s top-links page at Bloglines:

Do you see it? All of these links are talking about the same thing!! And, it’s bloody obvious from the confluence of the phrase “Google Talk” plastered as the page text! To you people at Bloglines, get with the game. Read this tutorial, pick your favorite clustering method, and then implement it so that we don’t get crappy results for “top links” that make us weep.

Humans are pretty good at completing the last 10% of where the algorithms fall short. I’d wager just about anyone you ask can tell you what the most linked-to thing was, by looking at your screenshot, even if the algorithm didn’t cluster it for you.
The beautiful thing about services that gather information about transient data sources, like this Bloglines most-linked-to info, is that in 48 hours, the algorithmic shortcoming becomes pretty much irrelevant.

What is Google algo like today. Getting worse and worse especially for paid links.
