Sony FS790 - A good deal?
I am planning to buy a Sony FS-790 notebook to replace my old and obsolete Dell Inspiron 8200. Here are the specs on this baby:
15.4″ WXGA TFT with XBRITE Technology
Wireless LAN (802.11 b\g) / Intel
NVIDIA GeForceTM Go 6200 with TurboCache
Intel Pentium M Processor 760 (2.0 GHz)
DVD+R Double Layer DVD±RW Drive
512MB DDR-SDRAM (DDR2-400, 512 MBx1)
120 GB Hard Disk Drive-Preloaded with 5 Sony Pictures movie titles.
3 Year Onsite Service Plan plus Accidental Damage Protection for Notebook
This will cost $2230.98, but I can’t find a better combination of power and portability anywhere else. Critical elements are the high-end graphics card, large hard disk, writable DVD, and widescreen LCD. I will also probably buy a 1 GB stick of RAM sometime in the immediate future.
If you know something good or bad about this Sony notebook, please leave a comment before it’s too late! Or, if you have a better suggestion, drop me a comment ^_~

You could buy a Mac

I’ve heard good things about Sony (not specifically this notebook), and Japanese electronics are usually good…

I just ordered the same thing, only with 80 GB Hard Drive but 1 GB RAM (512 × 2) The rest is the same. I read other reviews and it said that this computer is the sh*t!! It’s a Sony…of course it’s gonna be good…;-)

A big DUH! for Bijay. These people were talking about buying the same computer just before Christmas (a really bad idea, if you can wait until after the first of the year). Of course the price is going to plummet after the holidays, and will be considerably lower in four months. Any computer you buy will be selling for half as much in six months.

I own a sony fs790, primo! love sony always…. laptop is truly the best i have had/used. others were dell, compaq/hp, acer, but this takes the cake.
lucky for me, i was visiting relatives in north carolina, went into walmart and found this babe laptop for $779.00, only difference is it has a 60G hard drive but thats plenty for me and can be upgraded if i need to.
good luck!
