Posted in General by Elliott Back on January 31st, 2006.

Here are some first impressions from around the blogosphere on IE7b2:

  • Robert McLaws list of related resources
  • Sean MCB has a few thoughts on the new beta
  • Chron realizes that this is not a beta, but a preview of a beta
  • Digg has a choir of anti-MS comments
  • Soreeys points us at this Ars Technica review
  • David gives it a little trial run. Poor guy had to reboot…
  • Matt made it crash!!
  • Jeremy has been toying with it for a while now, didn’t die
  • The IE team posts a feature list

Thanks for the trackback. You have some interesting posts here on actually installing and trying out the beta. I’m very sad since I don’t have an install of Windows that I’m willing to IE7Betatize. I’m looking forward to a beta that can run alongside my IE6 (although I doubt it will happen) and can at least uninstall. (I hear that you can’t uninstall this version? That doesn’t really sound very likely but… that’s what I hear. Have you tried uninstalling yet?)

I saw something in the release notes about an uninstall. They say this:

Uninstalling Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview

To uninstall Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview and return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP
    # Click “Start,” and then click “Control Panel.”
    # Click “Add or Remove Programs.”
    # Check “Show Updates” at the top of the dialog box.
    # Scroll down the list to “Windows XP - Software Updates,” select “Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2Preview,” and then click “Change/Remove.”

If “Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview” does not exist, run %windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.exe. You need to have “view hidden folders” enabled.

Looks nice. But I am still sticking to W2K - so no IE7 for me. ;-)
