Restoration Update
Most of the important blogs are up, and the theme is finalized here. I’ve added a sidebar, my search terms and tagging plugins, and more. The SEO stuff looks good to go, too. I still need to update the themes on all other blogs and get some of them back up, too, but their databases are already in place, so it won’t be too hard.
Restoring even this small blog network is a major pain in the ass, taking about a week of my spare time. I had to:
- Find the databases and move them from 1and1 to dreamhost
- Run the upgrade script on all the databases
- Install a theme on all blogs
- Customize that theme for visual appeal, advertising, and SEO
- Restore the contents of a dozen wp-content folders
- Pester 1and1 tech support for access to my files
The theme I used was simple and somewhat terrible. It had parts in Spanish that I had to remove, didn’t set the content-type properly, etc. Quite a major hassle, too.

I’m not sure how I feel about this new layout. It’s nice and clean, that’s for sure, but maybe to an extreme degree. No gradients. No subtle shadows. *Nothing*. Can we at least get a pretty graphic in that empty top space?

So I take back my comment about the empty top space. Apparently there are supposed to be Yahoo ads there that my AdBlock is doing its thing with. Why don’t you take out that nasty ad and add a pretty graphic?

I agree with Dean. It would be better if you remove the ad on top, and replaced it with something that represents you!

Hmmm… Don’t get this the wrong way. I love your content but your layouts seem to be going down in terms of visual quality with each redesign. The design you had before the generic green WP theme was nice, the green theme was so-so (kinda generic) and this looks almost like you’re some SEO spamming content scraper site. This is partially caused by the lack of graphical elements like Dean mentioned and partially by the extreme amount of ads. I guess we all want to earn an extra buck or two but to me this is a bit too much
This is all intended as honest constructive criticism!

It’s all temporary–and the ad placement is really really bad right now. I wanted to get a certain number of them up, but it’s a bit overwhelming…. Still, there are just 3 advertisement sections on each permanent page.
