WP Autoblog: A Syndication Plugin
This plugin was intended so I could aggregate some of my and my family members blogs together on my front page using an all-Wordpress solution. However, it seemed to attract spammers who abused it, which is even worse for me, because it puts “Post by XXXXX and software by me” on the bottom of every import, leading some people to believe that I am a spammer.
This software is PERMANTLY ON HOLD. Go use Feedwordpress, you vile spammers, or the recently announced WP o’ Matic. I will not provide this plugin, or anything like it, because the potential for abuse is way too high.
I am not, and I encourage you to go after anyone abusing this with a DMCA notice. You can follow these instructions, which should get the offending site removed in short order. I’ve had my own sites ripped off by people abusing this plugin, and filed dozens of DMCA notices against spammers. In the web 2.0 world, information is money, and there are far too many people–often located outside of the US–who want to rip off your work, rather than writing for themselves.

[…] TeaQuality.com is up and running; however, the rss feed mechanism to incorporate news from yahoo and google news with keyword search function of “tea” is not working. So I went back and did some more research and apparently there are two popular wordpress rss feeders which is feedwordpress and AutoBlog, yet autoblog is not available due to the author’s fear of abuse of the code. This creates problems for me. I think it might be the CDATA tags in the yahoo news feeds that are creating problems with feedwordpress, but that mean I will have to spend time going threw the rss.php code file to figure out how the parser works… sigh and who knows how long that is going to take. […] I found a couple of plugins that would do this by taking an RSS feed and converting the ’s into Wordpress entries. The first one I came across was WP-Autoblog by Elliot Back however that assigned categories to syndicated posts based on the categories assigned to them in the original feed. Since the feed’s I was using didn’t assign categories to the entries, this wasn’t really a viable option. […]

Satu contoh, feed dari blognya friendster adalah RDF, setelah diconvert pake feedburner gk berhasil, akhirnya pake feedblender baru berhasil, but make me happy […]

After someone copied my feed and it looked like his post, I started using a plugin called: ©Feed, Plugin URI: bueltge.de/wp-feed-plugin/204/
It can attach a report of copyright, a digital fingerprint and the IP of the feed reader to your Wordpress feed (each entry)
Works great for me, just as a tip for people trying to find out how to stop content theft…

[…] Automated RSS postings If you’ve ever looked around webmaster marketplaces and found an "auto-updated blog" for sale, it’s probably just running the infamous WP Autoblog syndication plugin by Elliot Back. However, if you check the link, you’ll find the twonk has gone and provided free advertising to other potential spam tools: FeedWordpress WP o Matic RSS Aggregator Thanks Elliot. Actually, the RSS Aggregator may be especially good for a couple of projects I’m developing - not for blackhat content theft, but instead to consolidate feeds from a blog network onto a central site. So there you go. __________________ Search Engine Optimisation consultant Need search engine traffic? I can help: Britecorp SEO services […]

I hate people that have to ruin things for everyone else. I too am looking to incorporate content from multiple sites that are in my network, and want to do it the right way with links, credits etc. to original posts…oh well…all those other version out there cater to the:

Does somebody was brainstorming why Google have bought Feedburner? Do you really think Google does not know which post is original and which is stolen? Real nursery…
Chris, is the right way to steal is to write where it was stolen? And do you really think spamdexers are located in the rest of your small world more often than otherwise? You forgot U.S. is the country of spam origin.

[…] WP-Autoblog has been around for single-installations of WordPress for a while now which does a nice job of aggregating content into blog posts from various feeds around the web -much like WP-o-Matic discussed here. I like WP-o-Matic a lot because it uses SimplePie parsing that does an excellent job with images and other objects, while being relatively feed agnostic. Unfortunately, WP-o-Matic is not compatible with WPMu just yet. WP-Autoblog, on the other hand, has been made to play nice with WPMu (get the WPMu version of this plugin here) and it is a really dead simple interface that allows for an easy cut and paste approach to including feeds. So, I got to thinking a couple of things: […]

Do you have plans to re-launch this product?
on April 19th, 2008 at 11:41 pm
I think that you’re taking the wrong approach here. Yes, software can often be used for good or evil. Email is a great example of this. Should we shut down our mail servers because spammers have taken advantage of that medium to do a great deal of evil? Should we stop providing rss feeds, because they’re one way that splogs steal our content?
Splogs were around well before you provided this plugin, and they’ll be around long after you shut it down. If you have the opportunity to make people’s lives better through this software’s legitimate uses, then it’s worth providing.

Hiya Elliott, Is this software still avaliable from you would you be kind enough to email me it?
Thanks for your time

Steve

Elliott this software is still available. All people have to do is do a search for a free download of wp-autoblog and BAM!. Instead of distancing yourself from what you created you need to improve upon it. You are still responsible regardless of your denial. I for one love the software. My blog needs this capability and I am not spammer. I write, use PLR, employ guest authors and more. I want to provide content so that people will visit my site. Your plugin allows the post to point to the original post so what is the problem? Let google handle the spammers and the duplicate content, not you. Get off your high horse and fix this because if you don’t, someone will take your code and improve upon it and someone else will make the spam problem worse, Because You Won’t Take Responsibility! Finally, if you don’t want to labeled as a spammer, you need to tell those who still use your plugin how to easily remove your name link script from the plugin.
