Spam is Evil, or, Praise Akismet
Check this out: the number of the beast in my spam! On another note, Akismet has blocked 551,247 spams on this blog alone, and hundreds of thousands more on other blogs. It’s definitely the anti-spam product of the last few years.

It’s not 100% perfect, that’s why I keep moderation on. But you’re right. It’s absolutely awesome. It was about 50,000 on my last installation and I recently (about two weeks ago) I installed the newest wordpress from scratch (it reset the counter). Now it’s back up to 502.
I think it misses about 5 or 6 every week or so. But it’s so absolutely awesome.

Akismet is great… besides when it goes down. Then you’re hit with a nasty surprise that is hundreds of spam comments to moderate.
But that’s the problem with any service which relies on a remote server, I guess.
