Elliott C. Back: In Aere Aedificare

Apparently CBS is going to be providing absolutely free wifi access for a large swath of midtown which thrills and tickles me, except I don’t work in midtown anymore. Still, the hordes of Apple iPhone toting yuppies will be delighted to read Valleywag from Times Square. The so-called CBS Mobile Zone will fall inside this perimeter:

I’m not sure how well this will fly, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction. I feel like all the US should be a wifi mesh network, but it’s not. Why can’t cell phones, for example, bond with each other to create local peering and routing? We could get global connectivity out of these kind of schemes…

There’s just one problem with the NYC condom program: the colors of their lettering don’t match the actual subway line colors:

The colors should actually look something more like this:

There’s no O or Y line, so I substituted the nearest I could find, the 1/2/3 for O and 7 for Y. Note how much uglier the actual real subway colors are. Makes me want to redesign all of NYC’s subway colors. Or just take them from their new condom. The old colors don’t match!

Until last morning there hadn’t been any snow in NYC this winter. But today I woke up and, lo and behold, the lawn was dusted with a thin pattering of snowy goodness! Hurray, winter comes at last.
