Adsense Google Images Incorrect

Posted in Adsense, Interface, UI by Elliott Back on December 22nd, 2006.

There’s a UI bug in the new Google Adsense banners that include text links and the image logo. The problem is that the images do not inherit the correct background color:

As you can see in the contrast-enhanced image, the image retains a white background on top of whatever I specified. Where’s the famous Google attention to detail?

Firefox RC2 Tabs UI

Posted in Browsers, Interface, Microsoft, Spread IE, UI, Web 2.0 by Elliott Back on October 8th, 2006.

The new Firefox 2.0 RC2 is up for public download and spots one new UI change I really appreciate: shiny tabs. Their new tabs look fabulous, with brighter colors and web 2.0 gradients:

If we compare this to the IE7 tabs we see a similarity emerge:

Firefox here is innovating their UI off Microsoft’s IE 7 by providing “shiny tabs,” not that I mind, of course.

iTunes UI Redesign

Posted in Apple, UI, iPod by Elliott Back on September 18th, 2006.

iTunes 7 introduced a new way to manage your iPod, which looks like this:

Unfortunately, in distinguishing media types on your iPod, it lumps all video content into the “other” category, which is a big mistake in my opinion. Their UI should actually look like this:

That’s right–we need to use green for videos, and add it to the bottom bar. Fitting another option in there for a critical media type should not have been left out of iTunes!
