Giga Gamez: Om Malik’s New Videogame Blog

Posted in Blogging, Games by Elliott Back on December 18th, 2006.

So there’s yet another video games blog on the block, and it’s Om Malik’s GigaGamez. Visually, GigaGamez looks like his personal blog, but with more silver-tones. The colors could do better with the bold blues of GigaOM, but the logo is persuasive, in red:

Content-wise, there’s not a lot there. A “breaking news” story about WB buying into Eidos. Tons of ads. Second life gossip and anti-gossip and anti-anti-gossip, which would just be nothing. Of course, they also covered the infamous “wii strap replacement” story.

In their introductory post, they write:

Broadband is transforming the business of games, while games are transforming the business of broadband. Over the last few months I’ve doing my best to cover that evolution for GigaOM, and now I’m helping Om Malik launch this sister site, fully dedicated to telling that story in full.

I’m not persuaded that they can add more to the Video Game Blog scene than Kotaku, giant of game news, but I may be pleasantly surprised in the future. Give it a look; at worst it’s not bad writing.

Medieval Total War 2: Text Corruption Graphics Bug

Posted in Errors, Games by Elliott Back on November 18th, 2006.

Playing a hot new video game should not produce this result:

medieval2-2006-11-18-15-25-56-39.jpg

Apparently, players with ATI 1900 and 1950 graphics cards are experience text corruption in-game. The solution quite simple–just follow these steps:

  • Open the ATI Catalyst control center
  • Turn off ATI A.I. Technology

As you can see the text are not like it is supposed to be, he also had that text-problem with the demo, but he could play the historical battless then. But because of some problem he cant start the campaign and it just jumps back to the menu, I do not know if that have something to do with the text-problem.

He changed a little bit in the descr_strat.txt -file, but that was only the timescale, show date_as_ and the 17 playable factions playable and it didn’t work when he edited them back to the normal settings either.

This is the specs:
har: ATI Radeon X1900XTX 512MB
4096 MB DDR Corsair
AMD FX-60 2.6 GHz dual core
Soundblasters – Audigy SE

This answers questions like the above. Have fun!
