Credit Card Fraud at Zoosk.com

Posted in Crime,Finance,Spam by Elliott Back on October 17th, 2010.

I received the following warning from Chase bank via email and a series of harried transactions. Apparently someone decided to try to use my Chase British Airways BA Visa card to signup for an e-dating site. The baddie was doing this from London, Ireland, and had tried four times today with different expiration dates and CSV confirmation codes:

URGENT: Confirmation of Recent Transaction
Your Account Ending in XXXX

As part of our ongoing effort to protect your account and our relationship, we monitor your account for possible fraudulent activity. We have recently attempted to contact you by phone and/or text message but we have been unsuccessful in reaching you. We need to confirm that you or someone authorized to use your account made the following transaction on your British Airways Visa account ending in XXXX:

Transaction for $54.94 at ZOOSK.COM was declined on or around 10/17/2010 in LONDON, Ireland.

Zoosk is some kind of scammy online dating site that I definitely did not sign up for. Currently, it looks like this:

Apparently a lot of people think Zoosk itself sucks. I wonder if it’s the company itself is behind this. I can’t really see people using stolen credit cards to sign up for a dating service. Maybe it’s just a test run? Or an accident?

We are also from Australia. Had someone steal the visa number and made 14 transactions, 2 were from Zoosk $70.08 and $54.94. Bank is on to it but this is ridiculous.

  2. frank reece says:

At or on about 11:30 pm Zoosk.com charged my account for 47.62. I in no way joined the site or choose to use the site. Yet my card was charged. I can see that many others have also scammed. Why hasn’t there been anything done to stop them or the perps that are behind this. I am angry that my card provider is not standing up for me and allowing this to happen. Or does it mean that anyone who can do this sort of fraud can continue and no one stops them. Its not much but I want my money back….MY MONEY!

  3. Dylan says:

Just got charges from Zoosk to me and the missus joint account, got a furious call at 8am on my way to work and then got on the phone to the bank straight away, 2 charges, 1 for $40 and another for $140 on the same day!

I have no idea how they got my credit card details, I’m pretty careful with payments and don’t use the joint account for much any way.

  4. Emma says:

Wow, just found all these comments from years ago….I have never heard of Zoosk until now…just got a fraud payment of $44.68 taken from my bank, however, received two separate credits of $1.28 & $44.27…weird man! Not happy though and shocked after reading everyone else’s commons, yet it still happening!! What the…?

  5. rosier says:

bonjour, le seul moyen d arréter les prélèvement zoosk est de faire opposition a la carte!!!!!! ensuite signaler l escroquerie sur le lien Signalement.gouv.fr

  6. Vicky says:

I’m adding my Zoosk Fraud to the list . I have not and will never sign up for a dating service!!
My bank notified me of unusual activity on my credit card. How are these people getting my credit card information? I never use this card! I don’t bank with Chase. This came through BoA. I live in Mid West, U.S.A.

  7. Shaun says:

I have just called capital one and they cancelled my credit card to stop fraudulent charges by zoosk and others. My card was charged 5 times and one time by zoosk.com. As soon as I log into account to pay the balance, I noticed that my card was frozen and I was suggested to call Capital one. They were very helpful in cancelling my account and have assured to send me a new card. But I just wonder how they’re doing this.

  8. Danny Chane says:

This is ridiculous, I was charged well over a few hundred dollars in order for one of the transactions. I wish I could just get my money back, wow

  9. shawn says:

I found a charge for 75.95 on my credit card from zoosk. My credit card company told me that it was a reoccurring membership fee. This is a fraudulent charge as I never signed up for their services. Is this the company or some douche with my credit card number?

  10. claire says:

Hey people im from australia and we just had firstly match.com steal $45 from our account and now zoosk with $54.94. We have never used dating sites ever and this is fraud!

    • Andres says:

      Hey there Australia here too!
The same thing AUD54.94 and another of UAD 19.95. The same thing, NEVER used ZOOSK and still…Cancelled my card and have to wait up to 45 days for the Bank to solve it. Fraud in deed..but how???

  11. Melissa says:

I was just charged 54.94 at 239 am I’ve never signed up for a dating site ever. I closed my cArd and now have to wait for it to post before getting it placed as fraud. We all need to speak to a free lawyer and sue zoosk. If this is happening everywhere obviously something is up. And not open on weekends for fraud? Get out of here! Zoosk you suck ***. No one wants your crummy dating site so you take people’s card info and try to charge them? And to respond to an earlier comment where someone said we should hide ourselves or something pathetic IVE NEVER SIGNED UP FOR A DATING SITE AS KOST PEOPLE CLEARLY HAVE STATED IN ENGLISH. SO MAYBE YOU SHOULD LEARN TO Read!!!

  12. Anony says:

13 May 2013. I too have been Zoosk’d. There was a $1.34 charge to “queenvictoria”? to test if the card works, then two each charges for $36 and $54 to zoosk. USAA fraud department notified me about the charges and I had my account closed.

  13. Beth says:

Zoosk has been charging my credit cards for months and I JUST found it. All unauthorized and the charges just keep getting bigger. Capital One just advised me they are having this same problem with their customers and Zoosk and actually have the number right there waiting to dispute. Absolutely ridiculous. Why are they still in business???

  14. jesus says:

Guys listen . you love saying zoosk is a scam site. Please can i ask you something?? did zoosk force you people to sing up with them??.. if you got scam you dont need to tell anyone just hide it in your self and forget about it because he or she is not the right person for you.. just keep moving on. I hope no one will get mad at me

    • Rainbow says:

I did not sign up with zoosk.. I was charged $54.95 for something I didn’t sign up for

  15. Kieran says:

I just got Zoosked today. One charge for $54 and change and another for about $107. If you run a search for Zoosk and credit card fraud, you get waaaaay too many hits, and it’s the only website I’ve ever seen with a special sub-section under “Contact Us” for “Police Inquiries,” so I have a feeling that this is a first stop for the identity theft crew, Zoosk is well aware of it, and hasn’t done anything to stop it. My bank will handle it, but the fact that nobody’s done anything about Zoosk is highly disturbing.

    • Angela says:

I got Zoosked 01/21/2013, once for $54, the next for $36. When I called, after 20 minutes of being on hold, they asked me for my credit card information so they could “locate” my account. Seriously??? My checking account has been hacked and you want me to provide you with it again??? I agree 100% that something needs to be done outside of the bank.

  16. AD says:

Zoosjpj charged me the same day I my match, com expired and the same day matchhad scheleduked to have been cancelled ,,my bank
caught it. seems likE THEFT or collusion maybe with maybe via Facebook as how I had a free account with zoosk and it sucks but they had no financial info from me. Got a text spam, random same day. Seems like fraud for sure, maybe match.com lost data

  17. JGP says:

Ha – seems to be their MO – Chase just called me about two charges from Zoosk…Never even heard of them till now.

    • Christina says:

SAME HERE. I just received a fraudulent charge to my card this week! You would think that they would have a customer service representative at all times!

    • Steve H. says:

I just got scammed today from this website. They tried to pre-authorize my mastercard for $54.94. I did NOT sign up for anything, anywhere, and I’ve never even heard of this site before today. I had to freeze my bank account to kill this transaction attempt. They first attempted a small pre-authorization for $2.00 then reversed it to see if my card info was correct and valid, then billed me for $54.94. This site should be shut down and charged with id theft! Class action suit anyone???

  18. Misty says:

I just got a call today from Chase for several fraudulent charges from Zoosk.

  19. Tracy says:

Same thing here. Just got alerted from Chase that my United Mileage Plus Visa card was charged 3 times today by Zoosk. Two were nominal charges for $6 something and $14 something. These charges were initially approved. The third charge was for $54.99, and that one was denied because the fraudster used the wrong expiration date. When I called Chase back, they cancelled the card, and I won’t be responsible for any of those fraudulent charges. Chase as a credit card issuer is great with fraud prevention. FYI I live in Southern CA, and I never heard of Zoosk until now either.

  20. burnt2 says:

I was just charged $37.25 on 7/31 and then it was refunded 8/2. Very odd. I cancelled my card because I have no idea where they would have gotten my cc info. I have never heard of ZOOSK.COM (nor do I have a FB acct)

My credit union gave me a phone # that was connected to the transaction:

1-415-362-1000. Their customer support # is

  21. Linda says:

The same fraud was just found on my Chase visa card today. My bank contacted me this morning regarding a few small transactions regarding the Zoosk site. I am American and live in the US. Chase cancelled the credit card. I am also on FB. How does this happen? I am beyond mad at this!

  22. Jie says:

This zoosk.com must be run by a bunch of criminals! Never heard of this website until this evening when my Chase credit card called me and informed that zoosk.com UK had tried FIVE times to charge 39 – 129 dollars from my card. Luckily every time they entered the wrong CCV code. This is an airline card that I do not use often. How they stole my card number is beyond my guess!

  23. David says:

First time victim of Fraud and it’s Zoosk.com to the rescue to be the first to victimize me ~~~

I just leaned after multiple phone calls since 7AM this morning that my bank card had been blocked by my bank.

Thanks to the efforts of pay-pal after I was unable to pay for a purchase ( received a notice that they couldn’t process my order )

I finally learned from my Banks Fraud Department that Zoosk or whoever they actually are had attempted to charge my card five times for $99 !!

I was going to sign for for one month after receiving an e-mail waving the activation fee, I tried to sign up for $19.95 the screen went to the next page and tried to get me to for sign up for a six month or one year plan.

I hit cancel but I guess they still were able to get my Bank Card information in order to charge me anyway.

The Bank also said the charge came from outside the US, Seriously ?? They claim they are based in San Francisco !!

They need to be shut down and locked up for life !!

  24. alistair.mutch says:

why are they taking money out of my account i never gave them my bank detals

  25. glenn c says:

I feel sorry for all of you! Zoosk, is very closely tied to FaceBook (It would not surprise me, if they are owned by them as well?) I had a funny feeling about FaceBook for a long time, as they are a large Social Site. They make hand pick, victims like us? I’m going to warn as many people as possible about the company. I will also complain on FaceBook. If, my statements are immediately deleted by Zucky’s FaceBook (Police) then Bingo! I will have found the awnser! I luckly only lost $19.50. It’s not the money as much as I can’t stand FRAUD!!!!!

  26. jane says:

I have the same thing on my british airways chase card, AND my other chase card! There’s no way it’s a coincidence — must be Zoosk itself committing the fraud.

  27. julie says:

Same story, ZOOSK UK. I have a VISA through my credit union. After it was denied twice in one week, I was about to call my CU when they called me. I, too, wonder if ZOOSK isn’t behind this, or some employee thereof. I also had a charge from something called SEREN BOULOGNE in France.

  28. Amber says:

Yeah I just checked my bank account this morning to pay bills and have 2 charges from the zoosk london thing..totaling pretty much $100. I called my bank and they are processing a claim for me. My card is canceled and my bank said they can’t even give me back my money until they get the claim handled. I don’t even shop online!!!! Some people are just RUDE!

    • Erick says:

Same thing here. This morning I found a fraudulant charge for “$42.53″ on my CHASE debit card from “Zoosk Inc London”. I contacted CHASE immediately. I never heard of the company and don’t do business online except via PayPal. My card, too, is canceled and I, too, am waiting. CHASE does a very good job of handling this sort of thing.

  29. Not giving my name says:

This just happened to me also. I bank with Chase; I have never even heard of Zoosk before now; I was charged twice for the same amount paying out to zoosk. The bank did reimburse me; but for a lesser amount because the exchange rate changed the day of their transaction. This whole transaction of fraud cost me. I was the one that lost. It was fraud but no one could pay that difference back to me. I had a partial reimbursement.

  30. Lala says:

I was also charged twice this morning on my Chase Card from London, UK (I live in the US and never been to the UK) why Chase Bank and why Zoosk.com? Very strange! I’m just want my money back and put this scam behind me.

  31. Jamie says:

Hi i have been charged £71.63 for 6 months subscription even though i only choose the 1 months subscription which is only 2 weeks into it.so how can they charge my bank account for the 6 months?

  32. vicki says:

Same thing happened to me today as well. No way to contact Zoosk that I can find (without signing up – yeah, right) and no earthly idea how anyone could’ve gotten this particular card as I hardly ever use it – it’s my emergency only card; don’t even carry it around for the most part. Which just makes it weirder….

But somebody ought to consider pursuing whether with so many of these cases, Zoosk itself is involved. Seems unlikely that there are that many people out there snatching credit cards…only to use them for Zoosk? That’s just bizarre. Zoosk, I call foul – I’m siccing the lawyers and police on you.

  34. P K says:

    Hi there!

I’ve been a victim of the exact same attempted charges for $54.94 to zoosk.com on my Chase credit card just this morning.

Did zoosk ever help you out? I can’t find a single way to get in touch with a live human at the site, and I want to see how much information I can acquire on the fraudsters to make sure the remainder of my identity is still uncompromised.

Thanks, and hope you got that sorted out!

  35. JGast says:

I too have been scammed with a fruad transaction for Zoosk.com for $147.34 appearing on my debit card. When I tried to contact Zoosk they would not give me a phone number to use for contact and the email I sent had a “robot” response. The robot response said they would only reply to me if I joined Zoosk. I do not want nor need a dating service and all I do want is my money back. This is a terrible company that, in my opinion is encouraging fraud.

  36. Hi Elliott,

We’re glad your bank seems to have caught the fraudulent charges before they could go through.

We’d like to help in any way we can. We’ve just sent you a message on Twitter (via @ZooskSupportRep), and if you follow and DM us any details you have, we’ll get thus resolved for you immediately.

We hope to hear from you soon!

    • Shelley says:

Riiiiigggghht. I would totally trust a Zoosk Support Rep operating through Twitter!

I got charged twice this morning, and I live nowhere near the UK. Hopefully, my bank can resolve it. It’s curious to me that all of these stories seem to involve Chase Bank. Hackers, perhaps? Dirty ********.
