Dlink DI-514 Acting Up

Posted in Computers & Technology by Elliott Back on June 26th, 2005.

So my Dlink DI-514 wireless router is being weird. It dies randomly. I have two theories about this problem: overheating or power spikes.

I have exactly the same thing. I think it’s heat – I opened it up and the processor with the heat sink was really hot. I’m going to pop it in the fridge for a day and then try it. Usually it dies afer 20 ping replies.

Hi all. I have a di-774 and since a week it dies after few minutes. I put a fan over it and now it’s working… It’s heat.

You know I have the same problem , and I have opened the case and put in a 5volt fan screwed to the heatsink and so far so good. You could also try to screw on another heatsink, I think even just opening the case (just 2 screws) and drilling a few more vent holes might do the trick. The cpu in it is overheating.

Yup. I have the same problem. I found a heatsink in it and removing it, put a dab of thermal grease and a small fan on top, soldering the connection to the main 5v port. Works fine now.
