Google Rankings: Elliott

Posted in Google by Elliott Back on May 19th, 2005.

Currently I’m #16 on Google for the search term “Elliott”, which thrills me to no end. Little over a couple weeks ago I was #187. I did two things to improve my rankings. The first was creating a modular, randomized, dynamic front page that was Google friendly, included my name a lot, and actually had some content. The second thing is to push more backlinks to the site to try and undermine the established “elliott” players. Both seem to have worked fairly well.

Two things you could do to improve your rankings is add some title attribute text with the term “Elliott” and you could add to your blog footer a link back to your front page using “Elliott” for the anchor text. Right now you have the EB logo, but some text would give more weight.

So you inspired me to new heights of ego-surfing! I receive ego-feeds and google alerts on my full name, my company name, my blog names and my clients’ names…simply to catch if anyone mentions me, my blogs, my clients etc.

But I’ve never just searched on Elisa.

I wasn’t very hopeful, given that the test for HIV antibodies is called an Elisa test.

I was pleasantly surprised that my company blog is #8 in a search on “Elisa.” And somewhat surprised it would do so much better than my personal blog, which came in at #24. Given that my name is a part of the personal blog url and not part of the company url it surprised me a bit.

Anyway, Elisa is likely a much more uncommon name than Elliott (which can be both a first name and a surname) so don’t feel bad that I’m at #8 while you languish at #16 ;)

Thanks Michael–the header actually has a title tag, so it’s present on every page. Adding something to the footer might help, but I don’t want much clutter. I’m not focusing on the template right now because I need to upgrade to WP 1.5.x in the immediate future, and with that will come a brand new look and feel.

As for Elliott, well, let’s just say I was happy many months ago when “Elliott Back” ranked higher than some Missy Elliott song. Eventually my goal will be to take over the rankings for the letter “e”….

You’re going to have to go through me, mister!

  5. I like that you admit to deliberately undermining the other “Elliott players.” I love it. Sorry about the weird German quotes.
