oy, i know no one probably knows when the third book is coming out, buuut if anyone does happen to know, please enlighten the rest of us!! Thanks! Oh and I wish they weren’t making a movie(from what I’ve heard they are) the movies alllways find a way to ruin it by skiping details and letting the lazy people who don’t want to read see what happens and then they miss things that should go with the plot. I learned my lesson after seeing the 3rd harry potter movie, i didn’t even go to see the fourth. How would they put this into a movie??? Remember lord of the rings and the dragon effects they had when gandelf was fighting it? There is no way they could keep those graphics up all through the movie and make it look good, oh and guess what? theres a dragon alll throughout this book!! It’s gonna cost a loot of money. I really hope they don’t ruin it, and everyone whose gonna see it, if its as bad as i think theyre gonna make it don’t waste your money when they come out with the second! Everyone does that (look at H.P.) Haha I’m probably gonna see the first one anyway too but only if the commercials look all right.

Um…I heard the third book is called Empire and it has a green dragon on it. Everyone at my school in the Fan Club said they think Katrina is going to be the third Rider. Which could really happen just like when Murtagh became one after he had been captured. I dont know if ive been much help but I was doing research on it and my teachers at school were helping and we found an article saying he told reporters that he wouldnt reveal it to the public yet so there is not much we can do but hope….
If this is Christopher Paolini’s real email than I’d really like to talk to you some time about not only your story but about your life and some experiences that you can relate to with the characters that you wrote in your book. I love books but to me, yours is the best because you can make the reader really get into the book and make the reader feel the same emotions as the character. Great. This is simply great. If Christopher Paolini is reading any of this, My question is: Did you know your book was going to be turned into a movie? A videogame? What’s next? You know how the Lord of thing rings stuff got turned into a play? Probably going to happen. In the next decade, WHO KNOWS? Might even get a Eragon cookbook to make elvish stew. I Think I kinda know how the trilogy ends. I’m writing because I hope you change it so its not predictable. In the first book, Eragon had a vision of two people - one a woman - boarding a strange boat. One man was wailing on the shore left behind, and there are two dragons in the sky. And a green dragon is supposed to be on the cover of the last book out, and I think its going to be Arya. Galbatorix is the man on the shore .
If so, can you pack a punch in the next book so it’s not predictable.

first & foremost, i love the inheritance books & i’m a huge fan.
on another note…….some people come across this site while still reading the books, haven’t finished them yet, or are between eragon & eldest. i think it’s totally unfair of you guys to give away endings and plot lines w/o spoiler warnings. how would you feel if you accidently found out the ending of a great series you’ve been reading? stop doing things like that or at least have the sense to have some kind of spoiler warning.
also, i was wondering if there are plans of another trilogy related to the inheritance series?

So i know it’s like the 24th of october and most of you might have looked in the new 2nd book. It gives you a chapter of the 3rd book and the cover of it! The book is called ‘Gleadon’ and theres a drgon looking to the right. It has like a funny looking beard thing on it too..so yeah.
it’s also suppose to come out in the fall of 2006…..i don’t think Mr. Paolini is finished though, but thats what he said on his web site.
P.S.:i will probably never go on this wedsite again so don’t ask me questions

tell me JTI WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT RORAN WILL BE THE NEXT RIDER! no one knows for sure because there is a numerous list of people in the book that could become the next rider like arya or nasuada or howevre you spell her name but yes roran is a possibility. the only reason i have doubts is that it would be kind of corny to have cousins be both dragon riders. i know that murtagh is eragons brother and he is a dragon rider but both him and eragon are strong willed unlike roran who just wants to find katrina, marry her and settle down. the most likely choice for the next rider is arya and i will tell you why if you rember in eragon eragon as a dream at the beginnig of the book, possibily a premonition i will show you want it said be right back…………………………………………………………..alright chapter name deathwatch beginnig of chapter, he watched as a group of people on proud horses approached a lonely river. many had silver hair and carried tall lances. a strange, fair ship waited for them, shining under a bright moon. the figures slowly boarded the vessel; two of them, taller than the rest, walked arm in arm. their faces were obscured by cowls, but he could tell that one was a woman. they stood on the deck of the ship and faced the shore. a man stood alone on the pepple beach, the only one who hadnt boarded the ship. he threw back his head and let out a long, aching cry. as it faded, the ship glided down the river, without a breeze or oars, out into the flat, empty land. the vision clouded, but just before it disappeared, eragon glimpsed two dragons in the sky.” know this is what i think it means, eragon and arya leave alagaesia forever (keep in mind eragon is supposedly destined to leave this place) with other elves. the man onthe beach could be a lot of people like murtagh, galbotrix, or roran but probaly not roran because eragon would have noticed him. he has never sen galbotrix and probaly didnt recognize murtagh later on in the book because he probaly forgot about the dream as for the 2 dragons in the sky saphira and aryas green male dragon. now i could be wrong but why would christopher paolini but it in the book. any body got somethin better go ahead and show me up *****.

I honestly couldn’t say that i’m your best fan because i don’t have all your books. I just wanted to tell you that even though your books are entertaining, I think that it is really pathetic that you basically stole all of your ideas from other books. Many of the ideas in your book are taken from other books that I have read. I realize that much of this probably came because you were only 15 when your wrote this book. If you write anymore PLEASE remember to come up with at least some of your own ideas. Sorry, don’t mean to be the rain cloud on your sunny day, but your books really should have had a works cited sheet and internal citation. It was that bad. Keep writing though. I am sure that you will improve with time!

Where do you go to school? They must not teach sentance structure. Or spelling and manners for that matter. Sure there are other books that have elfs and dwarves, I won’t argue with that. But they all had original plots. (That means that the storyline was different if you didn’t know.) There are a lot of books that have the same storyline as the Inheritance Trilogy. And those books came out before Eragon and Eldest. I don’t mean that they are not good works of writing, they just lack in creativity and such. Next time if you are going to argue against some one’s opinion, find some ground for your argument. Thanks for your feed back though. It is a lot of fun to see what others think. I was just reading some of the earlier blogs and i have something to say.
I think that Chris is a great writer and that, although the elves and dwarves are not really orginal, the story is. Who would have thought up the names like Arya, Murtagh, Hrothgar, Sphira and the other names. plus all the places that Eragon went and the people he interacted with. The maps that he made were more detailed then new writers care to do. When he writes, i can actually place myself in the scene and look around. I know how hard it is to come up with 10 names, and he came up with dozens of names for three different books. That is VERY hard to do. I think that anyone that thins Christopher Paolini is a bad writer or doesn’t come up with original ideas should have their head examined. if that was true then any writer in the world is just like him. every idea that is out on the market is just recycled from something that they saw or heard. anyway… that’s how i feel.
Hello. I would just like to say i don’t fully understand this site and i assume with the title above “This is Christopher Paolini and this is his email” lol. Sorry for the jokes i amuse myself at time :D. But anyhow, i would just like to stop by and say that i enjoy your writing. I felt connected to the Characters and spent all of my spare time getting completely hypnotized by Eragon. I even remember finally reading it (after seeing it around quite a bit) and i was lost in your world of Eragon in only the first 30 or so pages. I can remember putting down the book on my bed and heading for dinner, but wanting to rush so i could continue to read it. It has been a year since i’ve read your book, and have still yet to finish Eldest. Ironic it only takes me a couple of days to finish Eragon but a year to get past page 38 on Eldest. Lol, i had to take a break and do things i had been meaning to do then never found the time. I know you get a lot of this stuff quite often, but i don’t normally like certain actors, bands, Television shows or know a lot about anyone that’s “famous” but you however, i find you intreging and i love how young you were when you wrote such an inspiring trilogy. I’ve wanted to be a writer since i was in elementary school so i believe that is where my fondness of you comes from. I do love your work. I was so inspired i wrote a research paper over you. Well (and i know you’ve gotten this quite often from critics) but i compared the Inheiritance Trilogy to Star Wars (i personally prefer dragons to aliens) but you get the idea. I really have no idea where i’m headed with all that i’m telling you, like i said i don’t normally do this whole “star struck” or whatever thing. But i would like to add that you are very talented and i LOVE your work. I don’t really have any questions for you or anything like that i’m just sharing my feelings towards your book and such. I’m headed to see the movie tonight, and i’ve heard it will not meet my excited expectations i’ve had for it since i first heard about it near a year ago when i was writing my research paper. I also have read you had nothing to do with the script writing and so i see that this is gonig to be mucho disappointing! But i’m not going to let that ruin my love for your book, though i’m sure it would have been mucho better had you written it. Well i believe i’ve taken up plenty of your time, I know you’ve got plenty to do, more fans to meet and greet and reply to. I don’t expect a reply at all or anytime soon, i just wanted to write my only favorite author, and will probably send a letter to the above address that was given. Anyone who has seen the eragon movie knows that it was completely ruined by whatever idiot director they had. I just went and saw it and it was HORRIBLE. you could have seriously written another whole book on what they left out in the movie! There was no Hadarac Desert, no twins, no star rose, no Solumbum, no elves, no dwarves, no Hrothgar, and no baby that Eragon blesses!!! IT WAS RUINED. Thank you.
I agree with you zeke. that movie was completely ruined by they stupid idiots that made it. The Razac were terrible and Brom was dead by the time eragon went to rescue arya. plus arya should have had black hair and what elf was there they didn’t have pointy ears. they didn’t even try to make them pointy. i liked the actor that played eargon and they did a great job on sapphira (i keep forgetting how to spell her name. lol).
Both Eragon and Eldest are available at the Austin Memorial Library in Cleveland, Texas. I have enjoyed reading the tale of Eragon. Our patrons and I, patiently, await the trilogy’s completion. We are also excited to view the movie at the cinema. The movie has encouraged those still reading Eragon to hurry and finish reading the book prior to seeing the movie! We are thankful for the writings. I am grateful for the Random House address of Christopher Paolini that was offered in earlier postings. They cut out half the characters, most of the book and switched it for shots of them traveling ova da land with music in da background!

Hi everybody. I’m writing from Hungary where Fox made some scenes of the movie Eragon. I’m not writing to Chris Paolini, ’cause I guess it’s not likely to be his emailing address. I’m writing to you, the funs of the BOOK like me.
I wanna talk about the movie… I’ve just seen it yesterday, after finishing not just the first, but both books which are as professional as the best fantasy books a fun can read nowadays (LOTR or HP I mean, for example). So, I’ve seen the movie yesterday, and I keep thinking about HOW COULD SUCH A BULLSHIT be done from the great story of Paolini??? How could Paolini make such a contract with 20th Century Fox, the studio which I’ve thought being one of the bests until yesterday, that enabled to ruin completely the original story? Jesus Christ, can you imagine what Peter Jackson (the director of LOTR) could make out of the book? The better would be to not continue making the next movie based on that ****.
However, the BOOKS are great… I can’t wait till the next one comes out. I hope Paolini gonna think twice before contracting to picturize his stories in the future…

Personally , I love your books. But, I think they seem copied. I started writing my own book before this even came out it’s about a dragon egg, love revenge. Similar stuff. Some stuff in your books seem copied from LOTR and Starwars Other people on chatrooms also agree. They really are good, but you really don’t deserve to be the next JK Rowling. No offence though. I can’t wait for your next book. This probably doesn’t make much since. But, most people who are in collage write about stuff just like this.

Nate i agree that someone has to get ideas from some kinda of sourse. I have been writting a book for about four years and is nowhere close to being done. For one reason, I haven’t got any ideas. So i took some from every kind of book i could find, changed them until they fitted nicely with the story.

Christopher has been out of school longer than any of use. Sence he was fifteen, he’s been coming up with ideas. Any author would tell you that they’ve gotten there ideas from others. Just a note before my rant, I’m looking for a debate so don’t think I’m out to personally get any of you or Mr. Paolini, I simply love debating…
I am afraid I have to disagree completely with Kenneth. Lord of the Rings invented the modern fantasy genre. Paolini owes more to Tolkien than anyone else.
And as for borrowing ideas, I agree, people borrow ideas all the time, but usually people twist ideas to make them new. It is one thing to have a story like Star Wars, its another to copy numerous key plot points from Star Wars.
Not to offend the people here, but I am mostly interested in Eragon and Eldest so I can see how someone writes when they are my age. I have been working on a novel since I was ten and I’m currently sixteen. I can clearly see shadows of my work as a ten year old in Paolini’s work as a fifteen year old, showing me that most writers go through a process. I infringed on as many ideas as Paolini did when I was little, but I’ve grown beyond that.
If you want inspiration for your stories, find the roots. My sources for ideas are usually history or mythology. Relying on other peoples books for ideas is weak and immediately leads people to connect the stories together. You can argue that Paolini’s books are nothing like Star Wars, but the fact that it can even be brought up is a problem. Lucas himself was inspired by Lord of the Rings and Dune, but the story was unique enough that they have become cultural icons that have helped to define the society we live in. Despite Lucas’s vivid borrowings, his story is unique. Paolini’s really isn’t.
Now this is the real test. I truly desire an intelligent debate with some one on Paolini’s books. If all that I get in response is cries of my bias and stupidty, then Paolini’s case will simply be damaged by your own bias. I have found very few people willing to argue intelligently and I would like to do so. I don’t hate Paolini, I simply do not like his books.
And one last comment about what Kenneth Justin said. I’m still a Junior, but I’ve been coming up wit ideas for years. Being out of school doesn’t suddenly mean one can have ideas, and as for borrwing ideas, you are certainly correct, everyone does it. The question is not do people borrow ideas, the question should be on the mater of degree. There is a line of borrowing ideas that should not be crossed. One should use the ideas of others to formulate one’s own. However, one’s ideas should never hinge solely on the thoughts of others.

hi, if this really is Christpoher Paolini then im sorry to bother you (youre probably fed up with getting obnoxious fanmail) but i was wondering how you thoutght up your dragon names. I’m writing a book and your books are the best written that ive ever seen so i thoutght that you might be able to help me. Also, remember the elven horse Folkvir that eragon rides to the place where Saphira and Gladr fight (in book 2)? Well, how come Eragon telles him to stay there and then rides Saphira back to Oromis? He totally forgets about Falkvir!!!!! Then you never see him again, whats up with that?

Forseti, there is a reason why I wrote what I did above. It was essentially bait, or more accurately, an experiment. You see I have read that Eragon fans are notorious for employing circular arguments and employing mostly pathos in their appeals. While I expect this of most people in the world, on account of the pathetic degree of polarization in our society, I desired to find at least one fan of Eragon who would be willing to debate outright. It is your right to love Eragon, it is my right to question it.
Hoever, when you immediately run to argumentum ad hominem, where you simply attack the debator, rather than address the topic, you lose all credibility. If you truly sought to defend Paolini, you would have replied intelligently, rather than relying solely on pathos and immediately running to nonrational appeals. Need I remind you Paolini stresses the importance of logic in his stories? Pathos is the opposite of logic. If you are trying to represent Paolini, you have, thus far, done a poor job. Even though I disagree with Paolini on the matter of the importane of logic, employing it is something I would have expected of true diehard fans.
Perhaps I am fooling myself. Shall I take a wild guess and assume most people here are young? As in tweens, or early teens? I myself am a mere 16, but the way most people here aruge, and the level of grammar and coherent statements thrown into the comments is appalling. When I go onto chatrooms for Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, people disagree, they also argue like intelligent individuals, mindful of the others beliefs, yet unrelenting in their argument. I never wanted any of you to agree with me, it is just the opposite, I only wanted you to argue with me. Replying with, what shall assume to be, snide remarks about my intelligence does not put your own intelligence in favorable light.
Again, I am probably fooling myself. These are the results I expected from this little escapade, but I shall wait a little while and check back.If I get an actual argument, you will have made my day, if I get nothing in reply or more snide remarks, you shall have dimmed my overall view of humanity. Then again, fans of Eragon are probably not a good sample for the rest of humanity. (Not bashing around Eragon, but most people in the world can’t read, so it is probably not fair to exclude them, and many are also too poor to buy the book).
Hmm, I probably should feel guilty, what with preying on you here like this, but I’m, having fun writing this, so I’ll put ethics aside and wait for you reply.

My name is Kari and I’m thirteen. I read your book Eragon a few years ago and I loved it so much. It was one of the books that made me want to start to write. When I heard last year that it would be made a movie I couldn’t wait, I was so excited.
But when the movie came out and I saw it, I was so disapointed.
Everything was all wrong, the movie was too short and they left out too much. Eragon and Arya’s relationship was too "Nice" and Brom didn’t teach Eragon very much.
I really do hope you get this and read it. I want you to know that I thought the movie could have been something so great. Who ever changed your story made a really huge mistake.
You were such an inspiration to me. But the movie was a real downer.

To tell you the truth i dont think the new book is coming out this year. I got the first book in 6th grade, (im in 9th) and the newwst one, Eldest, just came out this last year. So i have a feeling that we’ll be waiting a while. Otherwise, if he started writing as soon he was finished with Eldest, then maybe it would be out soon. Which i seem to believe that he couldn’t cause he’s alot more buisness now then when he first started.

Yes, in way they did come to me. I’ve read million’s of fantasy books, soo I know the main stuff. I decided well, I love dragons, so mybe a dragon in an egg. Then there must be a hero, I decided, it woiuld make more exciting if his past was unknowwn, instead of a royal knight or something. There most be love, a beautiful maiden perhaps. But, I haven’t decided if it should be a human, or something other than a human. the main thing is a better fantasy I have to say, would be something other than a human, to make it more intense and exciting so that the non human character will not want to be with a human, it would be a disgrace. Remember, I said it SEEMS like CP’s works were copied, I didn’t say they were( I forgot to conclude that anyone’s books could sound similar, I don’t have definite proof).. So my book could sound similar to his but, a whole different story, just some of the main, main things. Most writers would base there stuff on main fantays writings of course. Like a hero, romance, treachery, villain, fantasy creatures. So, you have to have the basics. So, I guees he may not have copied, his writing good, and it hooks me. I love his books, i’ve already written enough, so I won’t say anymore.

Love the books, great story, and i cant wait for book 3. Also sumone said that Arya is going to be the next rider with a green dragon cuz her magic is green. Now, Arya may well be the next rider but it doesnt necessarily have to be a green dragon. Eragon’s magic is blue cuz his dragon is and im not sure if anyone here noticed but his magic comes from Saphira. Same with Murtagh. Arya might just have green magic cuz she is an elf and elves are nature lovers. Anyway dont ask how i came up with this conclusion, after all empire hasnt been released yet so we wont know till it does.

Hello, just looking how to contact Christopher. I’ve already read Eragon. Wonderful book, but Christopher is special when he writes. He makes the book I think so u cant read it all at once like know none stop reading but once you put it down all you can think about is the book. Maybe i’m just crazy..*wink* i had first got Eragon by going to a afterschool program and a older male friend of mine told me about it and said i may borrow it. I looked at it and thought it looked ok. Yet i never started reading it until the next month the person i got it from told me i may keep it. After reading it whenever i got paid for baby-sitting i went to wal-mart looking for it. I gave Eragon back to my friend since it was his even tho he say i may have it, so i bought my own for that book changed me on the inside i have been writing poetry for a year so far and quite well..my opinion. But let me tell you about myself, i’m 13..for a few years now i haven’t gone to school. I get into trouble get kicked out. And i just say i’m being home-schooled. But i want to do something with my life. Like Christopher so i’m going back to school. Anyways i was at wal-mart shopping and spent my last dollar on a candy bar when i look over my sholder and there near me is Eldest. I grabbed it and begged my sisters friend to purchase it for me. She did and i have read 55 pages so far. It’s already wonder but scary and even tho it’s only a book i feel how Eragon and his Dragon feel. As one, Eragons fear becomes the readers fear. If Christopher ever reads this i just want to let you know one thing. Write and write because it might not change the world but if it changes one person then maybe that one person will change another and over time the world will change and it will be becouse of you. I have just finished Eragon you are by far the best author I have seen. I am now reading Eldest. But I think Eragon the movie was not that great is because of how many things happen it would be nearly impossble to have fit everything that happens in the book into the movie other wise it was not all bad the special effects were COOL.
Christopher I give you props for being so young when you wought Eragon. I think it was cool that you based Angela off of your sister. I also like the glossary good idea. But one question why do you put a dot in the second to last letter in both your titles?

Hello. I don’t know exactly who is reading this, but i hope it’s Chris. I wrote to you before andsaid that I couldn’t find the second book but I found it! I was sooooo happy when I got it. I started reading right away. I’m Allmost finished it. So far I think its really good. I hope that you can get the third one out soon. Will it be the last? I don’t know if I can stand not knowing how the series will end. Your books have inspired me. I want to become a writer. I can write small stories but a noval is a big step. I don’t even put chapters in my stories! If i want to write books like yours, with 74 chapters (like in eldest) in it I need to work hard and practise my writing skills. I’m pretty much saying that your one of my role models. Well i really hope that the next book you write excites me as much as Eragon and Eldest did. Also, will you write other series? If you do i’d like to know.

you start with the egg for a wile then i hatche in the begining its your pet it grows each level. When you come to level lets say 20 you can ride it and at 30 fly it and in 50 fly combat with it

Eragon is just like starwars and LOTR, the only reason it’s good(I like it) is because it’s two of the greatest fantasy books combined with a couple of details changed.

I also think that the special edition of Eldest has the third books title and if i am right, it is Gladr. I may have just misspelled it because I dont have the book next to me but the third book is named after Eragons trainers dragon, the Cripple who is Whole.

Hmmm ’tis the way i twould see it eh? There tis a tird book. Ta say twat tis it say we dont know. I do know for one thing though. Ive heard…no read rumors thats THE THIRD BOOK IS EITHER ELVEN or EMPIRE Im gonna go towrds Empire BECAUSE! like eragon and eldest it has 6 letters and starts with an E. The title’s also conclude the main topic of the story. In the first book Eragon….der der. Its about Eragon and finding out about him. In the second book its not so obvious. Eldest. Its about Eragon having to find out about his family though that is mainly hidden behind what is actually going on. But in the book you find out who Murtagh is…Eragon’s brother. Morzan’s ELDEST son. So to make things clearer. The third book MIGHT be named Empire because of the main subject overthrow Galbatorix and free the Empire. Elven as the name wouldn’t make sense. Unless someone could conjure up more info after this date. Im gonna go with the details I know about now.

We already know there is going to be a green dragon. I think that it will be a male because Sapphira is female and they will need to repopulate the species. Murtagh and his red dragon will probably be killed as Murtagh turned “evil”, which is something we gathered from Eldest. It would be nice if Arya is the green dragon rider and her and Eragon get together to “repopulate” the dragon riders.

I have read many books - sci fi and fantasy - and I can tell you that there are no truly original ideas anymore. Everything has come from folklore tales handed down through history.
Dragon - ancient China to darkages England to modern day stories.
Magic - again, look at ancient China - they have the oldest recorded history on the planet. They have many tales of magic.
There are many other examples. As for taking ideas from Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, these are probably the two that influenced Chris the most. I have read other books and most of the ones that do involve a young orphan usually has an older mentor to help guide the way.
Other authors that write about magic, mayhem and mentors are Terry Goodkind, Raymond Feist, Andre Norton and most of the authors that were popular in the seventies and eighties. Again, these would have influenced Chris and his story ideas.
If you want to give any other examples, I will do my best to find past history examples for them. I won’t give my age, I will just say I am an older female who likes to read alot.

We should know more about Morzan because it seems that he and selena play an important role in the conflict between Eragon and murtagh. There is still a debate whether morzan is eragons father his father may be brom. Murtagh might sacrifice himself for nasuada because in Eragon there is a hint that murtagh likes nasuada but there is a possibility that Murtagh will die. Galbatorix might kill Katrina because koran killed his most powerful wizards. Elain will give birth in book three no doubt but thanks for making these books i hope after the third one you make a sequel but thanks for doing a good job of making these books.

I hated movie at first, but now I love it. CP said he has other stories he’d like to write too. It’s likely to be called Empire, and he did not say it was to be called Glaedr either. You can’t blame it from being different, we have a long book and about 2 hours worth to make it. If you did everything you’d be watching the movie for days. SPOILER if not read Eldest: Yes Murtagh and Eragon are brothers, but nothing has been said about another brother, and Murtagh knows he’s a rider! The third book has not come out so the 3rd rider is unknown. I think it’s Arya considering the fact that CP said it’s be obvious and hinted through out Eragon and Eldest. I hope book 3 comes out in August, or possibly this

I have to agree with many of the other fans here, that even though both novels have been excellent, I believe the movie industry chewed and then spit out your poor book like they did with Battlefield Earth a while ago. These are merely my thoughts on the issue :).

Like everyone else I’m sceptic of this message ever even reaching the auther of Eragon but in hope… I get people, I understand how they think, feal what they feal and understand them. Recently a girl (of corse right!?) blocked me out, put unbreakabe shields aroud her and I feal nothing from her and it’s leaving me stumbling around in the dark… If this has anything to do with the mind shields, mainly writin about in the Eldest, please email me back. “I have done as you told me to. I listened untill I heard no more”, “Did you understand it all?” “No master” “That is how it should be, comprehension will come with age”… I only seek to walk in the light of understanding again.
Heres the deal with Eragon. You remember Solembum in Teirm? He told Eragon to look under the Menoa Tree for something. This could be anything but I believe it to be a sword. Also he told him of the vault of souls which I believe Eragon will collect a great deal of power from there. Nobody knows who the third rider is but from how the other book’s went, it points at either Roran or Arya being the next rider. More than likely Roran because he isnt near as old as Arya and remember the dragons chose riders at a young age.
Also I dont think Paolini is going to use the classic ‘Evil naturally grows faster in power than good’. He is far too intelligent and creative for that. There is a true explanation as to why Murtagh and Galbatorix are growing at the rate in which they are.
Also, it would make sense for the third book name to start with an E and have six letters like the other books but i don’t think it is called Empire.
This is just my opinion, like or not but it does seem to fill up some questions with possible solutions.
Don’t forget that Saphira still has to fix the Isidar Mithrim in Fathen Dur.

I read the first book you published when i was stationed in Iraq for my first 12 month tour. Subsequently, when the second was released right before i was deployed for the second time i was overjoyed to have something to take my mind off the harsh realities of life. I read your books once a week for two. Im not going to say you changed my life, but you sure as hell made some of the situations in it a little easier to deal with.
The movie was, as to all books and movies (unless your a star wars fan, in which case i am truely sorry lol) truely dissapointing and reminded me of a koolaid packet mixed with 10 gallons of water; Severely watered down and left a bad taste in my mouth. Please dont let that wonderful waste of two hours of my life ruin your third book it would be such a shame.

To Sean: I do agree that most posters here break very obvious grammatical rules; however, when it comes to contributing to the discussion, you’re very much ignorant of the subject at hand than they’re of grammars.
The posts in Harry Potter and LOTR forums are just as littered with erroneous writings as you would find in any kindergarten forum. Even in your own posts (yes Sean, your very own,) misspellings occasionally crop-up; whether or not they’re deliberate like you said in one of your posts is a fact I consider as an insult directed to the fine posters as well as your pathetic egoistical self.
It is one thing to be knowledgeable and a completely different thing to be wise. Your arrogance and shows a lack of compatibility of wisdom and knowledge; though you posses the latter, your posts show little (if any) evidences to substantiate the former. What’s more, I’m very sure many posters in here (like me for example) outsmart you in many academic areas, like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, e.t.c. Your English language proficiency is only one-millionth of what makes you ´smart´; if your care so much about grammars, I suggest you become an English tutor. We did not come here to discuss grammar but the wonderful world of Eragon. Do you beg to differ? Then I advice you to get yourself to the nearest English-Language-Forum for ill-witted grammar freaks. Like I said, we came here to talk about Eragon, and I’ll do just that in my next post.

The Inheritance Trilogy isn’t the greatest collection of books to grace my magnificent shelf hitherto, neither is it the worse. Though I agree with anyone who says Inheritance is a good quartet, I still can’t ignore the fact that it is nothing nigh original. I know it is almost impossible to come by an original plot-line, but the truth is that it is over indulgent in derivative-driven plot. The book’s plot is almost exactly that of Star Wars in a Lord of The Rings setting; its climax is sluggish as you’d have to read tons of pages to see anything exciting. Nevertheless, it is a great book for a 15 years old; but hey!, Christopher Paolini is no longer 15; we should be expecting to read a book by an adult. I will restrain from saying more than I have; I still love the Inheritance Quartet no matter what and like everyone of you I’m anxious to read Book III.
PS: Forgive my ´dork-like-English´. I will be posting things like every one else next time. A perfect saturation of error and grammar :o)

Frosti, I’m an aspiring writer. Writing a book usually depends on how far writers wants to push themselves, how many books they want to write and so on. In short, a good writer should be able to finish a single book in approximately 18 months; but that is my judgment, other’s will vary.

Of course Paolini’s books seem good, that’s because he ripped off the plot of Star Wars and changed it to a fantasy setting. Plus he stuck in some elements of LotR and The Dragonriders of Pern (Ann Macaffrey) for good measure, and presto. There’s nothing original about his books at all, hence the mass appeal. It’s already been tried and tested. Hell, he didn’t even try very hard to disguise it as original stuff … Eragon = Aragorn (LotR). Even without the massive plot holes, logic issues and tired, so-been-done characterisations - the poor apprentice with strange powers who will probably turn out to be the son of the arch-villain, the aged mentor who was once a hero, the bad guy who’s actually a good guy, and let’s not forget the gorgeous damsel in distress blah blah blah. It’s all regurgitated archetypes, even worse than Harry Potter. He’s got to be the worst, most unoriginal writer on the planet.

this is not a comment to Christopher, it is to Chris the person who wrote a comment before on April tenth. i would like to ask, have you ever written a book before? i mean those are the basic elements a book is written on, for instance, you know the good guy is going to win, the question is how does he win. you know he is going to get the girl but how is he going to get the girl? that’s what matters in a story. I think that Paolini is an amazing writer. His writing style is exemplary and his vocabulary is excellent. How many fifteen-year-olds use the word “conflagration” (found in first sentence, second chapter of Eragon) in the right context? I mean, I’ve met grown adults who use “conflagration” as a synonym for “mixed-up” instead of “a blazing fire”!!
Most authors only use about two of the five senses: hearing and sight, sometimes the sense of touch. Paolini lets you experience his book with all five senses! In Eldest, he told what Eragon felt, saw, heard, smelled, AND tasted in ONE paragraph all using extraordinary similes!
I don’t know about you guys, but I like to be able to read a book and feel like I am there. I can taste and feel and smell in life… why not in a book? Detail is important in any story, and what I look for in my writers and try to add in my own books. And Paolini has a ton of deatail, no one can deny that.
As to his story-line: Yes, Aragorn and Eragon are pretty close in pronunciation. Yet we know it is not a spoof off of The Lord of the Rings because Paolini himself said that he got the name Eragon by taking the “D” off of dragon and putting an “E”. I do not find that his books are like The Lord of the Rings as far the as the story-line goes. LOTR was allegorical.
Alternate universes, dragons, and riders are too broad a topic to say that writing about them is stealing someone else’s idea.
Yes, some of the twists in Eragon and Eldest were foreseeable and I guessed the relation between Murtagh and Eragon halfway through the first book. Perhaps I was right because I myself am a writer, and that is what I would have done in Paolini’s place, because I know many, many other kids who were surprised by that sudden twist.
Too how long he is taking to write his books: I have to ask, have you ever written a book? If you finish a book in three or four years you are good (no Dickens, for sure) but that is writing at a good rate. Some authors have been writing the same book for 20 years! Plus, editing and publishing take a long time as well. Just getting something copyrighted could take up to six months.
Yes, I am on a tirade. I am tired of hearing the complaints of gullible readers who believe every review they read, but still manage to think they know best as to how fast and how well Paolini should and is writing his books.

Oh, I have something I want to point out to the Paolini fans here who are interested in the Arya and Eragon romance.
I am sure that everyone just wants Arya to fall in love with Eragon already. There may be a reason other than the one Oromis gave as to why she will not love him.
Remeber in the “Prologue: A Shade of Fear” that Arya was traveling with two elves, both of which were killed at that time. Well, in Eldest these elves are mentioned again, very inconspicuously. Glenwing was the name of one of them, and when Eragon questioned Arya about him, she was all too happy and eager to tell Eragon about Glenwing. But when Eragon asked about the second deceased companion, Faolin, Arya all of a sudden didn’t want to talk anymore.
Faolin was also mention in the chapter “Black Morning Glory” (on page 364, too be exact). He was the one who created the black morning glory for Arya.
And in Arya’s room there was picture of a young male elf. Paolini didn’t say who this elf in the picture was, but I personally think that he was Faolin. Perhaps Arya was in love with Faolin, who died protecting her against Durza. Perhaps she just hasn’t gotten over him yet.
Just a theory I have been mulling over. I wanted to know what other people thought about it.

This forum is not frequented my anyone but myself and I am bored, so I really think I will just sit here and talk to myself for a while. Who cares if the next visitor must scroll through 100 of my posts?
Only two of the former posters on this forum said somthing that managed to interest me. The first one is Sean (last post Sept. 10, 2007)
I have no idea idea if he will ever return to this little forum, but if he does, he can read this and know what I think of him…
Sean must regard himself as one hot jock! He comes strutting onto this forum like a knight clothed in false honor. He points out all the mistakes that everyone else has made whilst at the same time making himself appear infallible. Then he challenges those he insulted to a formal debate and expects them to reply as cool as ice. I have one thing to say about Sean’s personality and social skills: he has all the tact of a cottonmouth moccasin that shows up uninvited to a slipping-slide party or, better yet, a maggot that unexpecdely decides to grace a sushi bar with its presence.
Yes, there are plenty of typos and mispelled words on this forum; some of us, like myself, are pressed for time and fail to go back and check our spelling… irresponsible but excusable. Others use “text talk” to save their precious mins. And the rest simply do not have English as their main tongue and have not yet mastered the English language. But Sean made his fair share of mistakes, too.. he had the Latin word for “mother” (mater) shoved up in one of his posts. Somehow, I do not think he was practising to become bilingual; the sentence makes more sense if the “t” is doubled, that way it becomes “matter” not “mater”.
As to his debate, I will merely address one of the topics he brought up. Yes, nearly every author is inspired and uses the ideas of others to form the outline for his books. Yes, Paolini’s first two books are akin to Star Wars. But, if you look close enough, they have their differences. Luke’s house was burned and both his aunt and uncle were killed. Eragon’s aunt was already dead, and his house was blasted to peices (it was the barn that burned). Luke was the last of a dying order, as was Eragon. But Luke has to find his mentor, whereas Brom found Eragon… and their was even a logical reason for Brom to be living so close to Eragon. Both Luke and Eragon discovered they had siblings they never knew about, but Eragon’s brother becomes part of the ‘dying order’ as well as his enemy. On the other hand, Luke talked about his sister having great power, but she never showed any and she certainly never turned against Luke. Luke had to (or would have had to) kill his father. Eragon’s father is already dead; he’ll just have to kill the king. And lastly, Luke didn’t kill either of the “Darths”… his father did all the work for him! We don’t know how or if Eragon manages to kill Galbatorix…
Would anyone like to know the reason for books whose plots run so much alike? There are just too many human authors out there whose heads contain human brains and a human imagination. Example: I met an author once whose characters bore the same names as mine, the titles of our books were nearly exactly alike, our characters had similar characteristics, and their culture was a bit alike as far as the language went. Neither of the books had been published at the time and we had never met one another before. It’s called coincidence. Perhaps Paolini did not take the idea from Star Wars. Maybe it was all coincidence. It would only take one person to realize the similarities after the book was published for the news to spread and for Paolini to be accused of plagiarism. There is a chance that neither Paolini nor his relations realized the similarities between Inheritance and Star Wars until someone else pointed the fact out to them. (someone had to point it our for me!) But you know what? Forget this! Inheritence isn’t even finished yet and we can’t base an opinion on something we only know a fraction about.
So far, I do not see any reason to have even a modicum of resepct for Mr. Know-It-All Sean. His social skills are horrible, his judgements are hasty, he bragged about a book he’s been writing since the age of ten (nothing to brag about… I finished my first book at thirteen after starting at the age of eleven) and he seems to consider himself better than all other teenagers. If he return, I wonder if he has anything to say for himself?
Oh, while browsing through posts I found a lot of questions about books and publishing in general. http://www.freewebs.com/whiteivy will answer most questions you have about publishing and they may even accept your works in their new magazine.

Opinions are just that… opinions. They vary, they change, and they ARE NOT fact.
Just because this guy says he thinks that Eragon is a bad book does not mean that Eragon IS a bad book.
Just because this guys says he thinks Paolini is a spoiled brat doesn’t mean that he is one.
Good grief! The guy who made that site, Mark, didn’t even give many reasons to back up his opinion.

And the writer of that review came to that conclusion how? Paolini didn’t even write Eragon with the intention of making it into a book. He was BORED, for goodness sake, and decided to sit down and write! Paolini didn’t shower himself with glory… Knopf and Laurel Leaf and all the other book companies did. That’s to be expected.
Again, I quote:
“Like he spent all day everyday writing into some tacky bound book in a load of dead weeds.”
And it shows a picture of Paolini writing whilst sitting upon a bale of hay. Yet another mere opinion. What on earth does WHERE he write have anything to do with anything? That’s not significant in the slightest! I write while sitting in a tree… please tell me how that could affect my writing, or anyone else’s for that matter.
Again, there was the accusation of plagiarism… but, as I already stated, we cannot judge something we know only a fraction about. Why don’t we wait and see how Inheritance turns out? If Morzan comes back to life and kills Galbatorix for Eragon, then we can say that it is a spoof off of Star Wars.
Mark, you are like the readers I was ranting at a few posts ago… gullible, who will believe any review they read. Why don’t you read the book and base your opinions on logical conclusions? Then you can come back, state your opinion, give the reason for your opinion, and expect to have that opinion respected and/or taken seriously.

Oh yes, a few things I forgot.
The creator of the site Mark gave also said that:
“when the word ‘Eragon’ appeared in the screen. My first thought? ‘Aragorn’.”
He brought up the similarities between the name Eragon and Aragorn. May I bring up the similarity between the name Aragorn and the name Aragon?
Yet I see no one criticizing Tolkien or yelling that he spoofed the name of a country.
“I mean, any book named after the fantastical main character?” the guy also said. And naming your fantasy book after the main character is a bad thing because…. why?
The guy also said somthing about Paolini self-publishing because no real company would take a chance on his book. Obviously, that statement is dead wrong. If it were true, Knopf wouldn’t have published the book. (and subsequently it would never have left Paradise Valley, because it became famous through Knop’s advertising.)
General information: Paolini self-published because he wanted to have sole rights to his book. A worthy reason. Self-publishing isn’t easy. It takes a lot of extra time and money.

I have read the third book in the series and IT IS AWESOME!!!! Anyway it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I read the first book in 8hr’s the second in 10 the third in 16!! Even though i am a girl those books are awesome they are more for the adventurous, coragious type. anyone know the name of the last book? I liked the books but i`ve read a lot more from feist robert jordan and more of these writers. I think it`s good but it`s different. I hope when my book is finished it will look a bit like any of these or one of the inheritance circle.(in three years no comments from the one we`re searching :D)
