Internet Explorer 7 Announced! Glory!
Internet Explorer 7 is coming, says Bill Gates. Betas of the new version will be available this summer for users of Windows XP. In response to criticism about security, he says “Hey, Microsoft heard you. We’re committing.” The new version promises to try to prevent phishing and malicious software.
The press release offers few details, but puts an official stamp on what could be the next big browser. Given Microsoft’s entry into search and other markets, expect this release of IE to fix all of the old complaints, and add new propietary features that we will undoubtably both love and hate.

The only thing there likely to add is XAML, their proprietary language for creating Windows only user-interfaces.
Remember. Microsoft has a different philosophy than the Mozilla Foundation. The foundation believes in standards and interoperability (Which is why the browser works on all platforms). Microsoft only created a browser to control the content of the web.
By creating obvious faults in CSS and HTML support, they pushed some sites into being IE/Windows only. That makes them *sell* more windows operating systems.
Remember, the (now discontinued) IE/Mac only shared the name with it’s windows counterpart. It too was a completely different rendering engine (now only for WebTV as I recall).
Microsoft’s move is not because IE is loosing market share, but because some websites are now becoming cross platform, rather than IE 5.5+/Windows.
Microsoft is a “for profit corporation” according to their charter.
Hmm…I’m highly suspicious, and it’ll take a lot to sway me away from Firefox now, but I’ll give it a try. I do try and keep an open mind despite my suspicions.

Microsoft will never fix problems with there new IE. I bet we won’t see tabs in this new release either. FireFox is the king of all browsers.
On the MSDN page, I saw FireFox users commenting on how much IE sucks and then the IE users claimed that they will use IE forever with all the problems it has. It’s really funny. Using IE is not the way you’re supposed to browse the net.
I highly doubt IE7 will fully support css2 (or a bit of css3), png images, or anything else relating to it’s archaic rendering engine. Not to mention that as long as ie has activex support, it will always be vulnerable to activex exploits. Unless you can point me to where it says that ie7 will support what I said it won’t support, and not support activex…
