Peter Jackson sues New Line

Posted in Law by Elliott Back on March 8th, 2005.

Peter Jackson is suing New Line for a number of accounting improprieties regarding the first Lord of the Rings film, The Fellowship of the Ring. Director Gaylene Preston comments:

“Studios use myriads of ways of making sure that when the money flows it flows down their rivers and streams and into their little sludgy creeks rather than back to the producer,” she said. “They get away with it a lot of the time because people can’t afford to sue them. It’s a lawyers’ game.”

I haven’t heard much about this: one guy thinks Peter Jackson is just being greedy, but from the article it sounds as if there really was some fraud. Only time will tell.
