Texting v. Morse Code

Posted in Humour by Elliott Back on May 7th, 2005.

The TEXTING versus MORSE CODE contest that buzzing around the blogosphere omits a few important facts, such as that Miss Devlin only sends three text messages a day and has only two years of experience. Her unfairly matched partner, 93 years old Gordon Hill has been telegraphing since 1927. Sorry Engaget and Slashdot.

Well, another fact is that the 93 year old probably does the same. I, however, am an Morse code highspeeder, and can hold a continous conversation for hours on end at a speed of 50 words per minute. That is approx 250 characters a minute. If I also start using all the Morse abbreviations (yes, the same as you use in SMS, they originate from morse) I am willing to bet quite a bit that I can beat any of you. Do not forget that there are very many extremely good morse operators, and not all of then are 93 with a shaky hand. I am 26, and far from an elite operator.
