Why say it?
Looking for bloggers to promote Longhorn in the Team 99 forums, Robert Scoble notes that no women have been nominated, and says that it’s a problem that “almost all of them are men.” Of course, I don’t see that as a problem–there are simply not a lot of women who blog, and fewer still who would want to blog about Longhorn. I oppose this kind of thinking for the same reasons I oppose affirmative action. Selection of candidates (for anything) should be racially / gender blind and follow the laws of a free marketplace. Because no one nominates them, there must not be suitable notatable women bloggers for the position. This is no one’s fault.
