American children aren’t children

Posted in Law, Music, Politics by Elliott Back on October 11th, 2005.

Born in 1987, making him only 18, Shad Gregory Moss or lil’ Bow Wow is a rapper. In 1999, when he was apparently at most 14 years old, he recorded a song called Jumpin’ Jumpin’ with Destiny’s Child, JD, and Da Brat. His lyrics read:

(Lil’ Bow Wow)
uh uh uh oh
uh huh uh huh
you already know
yea uh huh uh huh so so
what the name what the name what the name be

(Destiny’s Child)
So he say he got a girl (my)
Yeah true you got a man (name is)
But the party aint gonna stop (Bow Wow)
So let’s make it hot hot (check me out now)

(Lil’ Bow Wow)
I’m outside tryin to bribe a bouncer
You got to let me in this,
I’m tryin to tell you
Me and Kelly got some serious business
Now say your price I’ma drop just let a nigga slide,
Cause this party ain’t a party if I ain’t inside

(JD)
Shorty you to young, you ain’t even 21

(Lil’Bow Wow)
Playa stop it
Where the list at for the young niggas with grown pockets
Beyonce just hit my two way and said it’s jumpin so stop frontin
And do a little somethin (oww)

Let’s see, there are three things that stand out when I hear this:

  • I’m outside tryin to bribe a bouncer
  • Where the list at for the young niggas with grown pockets
  • Me and Kelly got some serious business

Ignoring the context of the song, we just had a 14 year old kid describe high-paced, sexy club-life and greedy capitalism. Sounds a little adult, neh?

  1. Yeah. Because damn well they are trying to take childhood away. Maybe that’s one of the things that’s never exisited, but us Americans always believed in: childhood. School starts closer together, requiring more and more time but requiring less and less actual thinking, the whole American School system is doomed. Learning isn’t what school is about. School is about brainwashing people to be sheep, so they don’t become voters, so they don’t start thinking for themselves.

Yes, me and “Lil’ Bow Wow” were born in the same year. Amazing.

Sad but children are just not children anymore, and it is true they don’t think for themselves. The school system doesn’t teach them anything as Daniel said is his reply.
