CES: Gadget Blogs Race To Break News
Sharp just announced the world’s largest TV at CES, and three major gadget blogs are covering the news. Interestingly, Engaget is there an hour an a half before the rest, which post the news within 15 minutes of each other:
Engadget: Sun, 07 Jan 2007 15:41:00 EST
Gizmodo: Sun, 07 Jan 2007 17:11:46 EST
CNET: Sun, 07 Jan, 2007 17:25 PM EST
This reinforces my view that the internet is just one big echo chamber. Once Engaget posts their news, what point is there for anyone else to pick it up and echo it? Engaget’s audience is a strict super-set of mine, so nothing I say will be new to the people that have already heard the news from its main distributor. Arguably, in the case of Gizmodo, who are trying to compete with Engaget directly, picking up old stories is necessary for completeness while they run their own “breaking news” items.
