Spread IE Buttons

Posted in Browsers, Computers & Technology, Microsoft, Spread IE by Elliott Back on October 24th, 2004.

For loyal fans of Microsoft Internet Explorer, I present a set of handy buttons in popular sizes:

80×15:

125 x 50:

180 x 60:

A great IE logo source image can be used to create more Internet Explorer promotional logos and buttons. Anyone who makes an IE logo, leave a comment with a URL and I’ll add your button to this page!

    Dude, IE is horrible.

  3. Elliott Back says:

Well, to the two of you commenting here, I have a few words. I find that Internet Explorer is easier for me to use than Firefox. I find (in general) that it’s faster, more robust, and user friendly. Firefox is a good product, but it’s not as solid as IE. Hundreds of bugs get fixed every month.

Now, I know IE isn’t perfect either, but it is good enough for me.

  4. Firefox > IE says:

That’s exactly the type of attitude that is bad. Microsoft has pretty much done that. They’re like IE is good enough, why should we change it? Progress cannot move move with that. Firefox actuals supports innovation. Firefox actually supports web standards, unlike IE, which allows web developers to do great new things and be assured that they will work cross platform. In terms of speed, both are about equal in my experience. In response to how robust the two are, I’ve found Firefox to be very robust, especially when you factor in the extensions that can be added. User friendliness I would give to IE by a bit.
Firefox is pretty solid, considering it’s finally gotten to its first release. Also, the bugs are not the super critical ones that can damage your computer like the ones you find in IE. I don’t like the fact that Microsoft integrated the browser into Windows. It opens up IE to too many exploits. Whatever you may think, IE is NOT standalone on Windows. Also, ActiveX is bad. First of all, it is proprietary, and second of all, it is insecure EVEN in SP2. Speaking of SP2, yes, it does increase security. It also is a huge download file. People that are on dial up usually don’t download patches, especially not services packs, because they take forever. These users stay unprotected and get wormed, trojaned, or otherwise. Also, SP2 has messed up quite a number of computers, not as many as SP1 did, but still quite a number. After SP1, I thought Microsoft would have learned its lesson, but, nope, that’s Microsoft.
Oh, and if you don’t think IE is still insecure, try this link: http://sylvana.net/test/AP4.jpg. (It crashes IE) Also, even some Microsoft executives use Firefox. In some of Microsoft’s demo screenshots you can even see that they used Firefox. US CERT also recommends not to use IE. I’m wondering why you think IE is SO great and why we should spread the plague that is IE.

  5. ricky says:

well IE is still the best and the choice of majority of people in the world who surf the net , firefox is good but not as good as IE i still find IE to be faster then firefox , IE is simple and userfreindly ,

    thanks
    ricky

Author’s note: Ricky, I had to manually post your comment–my first false positive. Your records show you’re possibly using an older browser without javascript support, thus causing my anti-spam plugin that relies on modern JS to fail. Is this the case?

  6. Firefox > IE says:

IE still has SO many security faults, though. Most people don’t know what to do if they get infected or hacked. Firefox has MANY more features than IE and both interfaces are easy to use. In terms of speed, it’s about equal.

  7. How ironic you make them in .png format. A format that’s barely supported in IE browsers.

  8. Lee says:

Firefox seems good in many ways, but I won’t use it. The first thing I did when I installed it was try to get the Google toolbar- I couldn’t do it because it isn’t supported by Firefox. The second thing I did was try to move the links/bookmarks bar above the main bar- I couldn’t do that either. I’m sorry but I refuse to use a browser that has the address bar right up at the top of the screen and the links down the bottom next to the browser window; it just seems weird to me. If Firefox fixed these issues, I’d be very happy.

  9. Sigh. Mozilla FireFox does indeed support the Google Toolbar. I even have a pic of it in action.

If you took the time to browse the FireFox plugins site you’d find it and be able to download the Google toolbar here. It’s fully functional.

  13. McCar Lee says:

well, yesterday firefox started to act weird, and now i can’t start it anymore. no, not even when i uninstall it, and install it again.
i have tried it multiple times, even rebooting my computer *sigh*

well, IE sucks; but firefox isn’t flawless on that area.

  14. NazT N8 says:

Only a Microsoft fanboy would print such garbage. You need to either educate yourself or go play in a busy street. Also, your 180px button is ****-tastic! And you made it a .png image?!? You probably didn’t know this since your head’s been crammed up Bill Gate’s a$$, but IE doesn’t support .png graphics.

But thanks for the laugh. Don’t give up your day job.

Oh yeah, here’s a sneak peak at what the new Windows OS will feature, fanboy.

  15. Although I’m working in Seattle, it’s not for Microsoft. Interestingly enough, IE has good support for PNG save that it doesn’t respect alpha values correctly. AFAIK, the pngs above don’t use alpha channels, so they’ll render correctly on all platforms. Also, IE 7.0 fixed the PNG rendering pipelines and will correctly draw png alphas.

  16. Somebody says:

Oh, (i’m sorry, but) **** IE!
    Yeah, it’s very secure…:|
The IE6 is a big security fault.
    Get firefox:) http://getfirefox.com

  17. science says:

    IE is an abomination.

  18. René says:

And first I thought that this was a joke, a spoof site designed to make fun of the “get firefox” campaign.
Dude, get a life. Only the technologically-illiterate and computer-UNsavvy still believe that IE is the best browser out there. The writing is on the wall.

E has MASSIVE amounts of SEVERE security flaws, some of which MS either cannot or will not fix. Firefox has had a few, minor flaws (and one or two – extremely rare – major flaws) that get patched quickly.
IE has almost NO SUPPORT for the current web standards. Its support of CSS1 is minimal, and it has virtually ZERO support of CSS2. Firefox, on the other hand, has near-perfect CSS1 and quite good CSS2 support.
IE has ActiveX built into it. Firefox does not have this planet-sized express freeway straight into the heart of the operating system. ‘Nuff said.

  19. SilentTears says:

The ONLY reason that Firefox is free from security issues at this time is because it is still relatively new. Give it some time and popularity, and it will be exploited in the same ways as Internet Explorer.

Just like when everyone was raving about Limewire being so much better than Kaaza… It’s “trojan and virus free”, “safer”, blah blah… Look at it now, it isn’t even worth the time it takes to download it. It’s LOADED with trojans, viruses and corruption.

My feelings and advice is this: If you like Internet Explorer, use it. If you prefer Firefox, use it. Why stoop to flaming one another on such a meaningless and fruitless issue? I use both browsers, however, I do prefer Internet Explorer. Why? No particular reason, I just find it more user-friendly and a tad faster. The choice is individual preference. Chill-out peeps.

I don’t know if you are still looking for buttons to add, however, I created this 88 x 31 for ya today in Paint Shop :)

  21. Bob says:

    FIREFOX ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!

  22. Wow, why don’t you also mention that you work for Firefox. Saying IE is better than Firefox, is saying that a Toyota Echo is better than a Rolls Royce. I don’t see how it’s better or fasteri in any way. And by the way; go to hell you conservative!

  23. John Foo says:

With IE7 the fight is a little more even. While I am a FireFox fan, I think it’s better to recognise that IE7 is going to be around many people desktops. IE7 gave me some grief over their concept of security (selectively disabling javascript for sites not set as trusted). But as a developer I am happy that that with this release it is slightly more standards-compliant now.

Use what you like. It’s a free planet (well, most of it anyway). But just because you like chocolates does not mean that people who like strawberries are ****.

Quote: “The ONLY reason that Firefox is free from security issues at this time is because it is still relatively new. Give it some time and popularity, and it will be exploited in the same ways as Internet Explorer.”

    haha still relatively new

    hahah man

It’s not like all of the IEs are based on the last one’s code – meaning that IE6 was full of flaws because of caveman IE1 programming. No. IE6 was full of flaws because it was poorly programmed, tied in too close to Windows, and not updated regularly enough for big enough issues.

Firefox is superior because there are regular updates, it has been solid programming for years, and those who work on it actually care about the project – unlike IEs overpaid white collar programmer who just wants his green.

Now, I’ll admit, IE7 is rather nice, but I find it rather clunky. Firefox is dependable, and has only crashed on me two or three times in my entire five years of running it daily.

On the topic of Elliott Bareback, the 180 x 60 icon resembles the byproduct of homosexual intercourse. Ed. Note: LOL?

  30. Well... says:

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, which is why i’m trying to get all 5 ‘Main’ browsers on my site.

Problem is, that image won’t shrink small enough and I can do trasparency.

Can you, or anyone else, make one similar to the firefox one I already have on my site?

IE blue and white for a color scheme.
