US Permanent Resident, Travelling to Canada
According to the US Department of State, all I need to travel to Canada is my greencard as proof of permanent residency, at least until December 31, 2006.
December 31, 2005 – Passport or other accepted document required for all travel (air/sea) to or from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Central and South America.
December 31, 2006 – Passport or other accepted document required for all air and sea travel to or from Mexico and Canada.
December 31, 2007 – Passport or other accepted document required for all air, sea and land border crossings.
On the other hand, if you are travelling abroad for a long period of time, you need a re-entry permit anyway:
Lawful Permanent Residents (green card holders) use re-entry permits to re-enter the U.S. after travel of one year or more. For LPR’s returning to the U.S., re-entry permits are generally valid for two years from the date of issuance of the re-entry permit. The LPR should apply for this benefit before leaving the U.S.

Hi, my friend who is a US Citizen will be going to Vancouver for 8 days to work for a Canadian company
So does he need a work visa for only 8 days of paid work?
Please advice.

My wife and I are traveling to Vancouver in September. I am a US citizen she is a Cameroonian citizen with a premenant resident card from the US. Her Cameroon passport just expired and will take more than three months to issue a new one so she kept it and filing for citizenship in the US. Will Canada let her back in with an expired passport?
Hi! I’m searching for some answers myself… right now I’m wondering if I can enter Canada with just a resident card because my passport is expired. I saw your message and I’m wondering if you can answer my inquiry since you went to Canada September of last year. Your response will be greatly appreciated.
this is what I got from the US embassy website with Canada.
Alien Permanent Residents
Alien permanent residents of the U.S. must present their Alien Registration Card, commonly called the “Green Card.”
So yes, you only need your green card to enter and leave Canada, but if you are entering from a third country, then you’ll also need your passport.

After we came, my hasbands job did’t work out and he lost his job offer. What can we do to continue to live in Canada? Can I use my visa in order to stay? Because we been told that I got work visa dependant on his LMO approved.
FRANKIE..I DON’T KNOW IF U GOT AN ANSWER TO UR QUESTION YET BUT HERE’S WHAT I KNOW..YUP YOUR WIFE WILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE WHOLE PROCESS BUT ITS LOT FASTER THAN THE OTHERS SINCE UR A CANADIAN CITIZEN BUT U SHOULD BE ABLE TO SUPPORT YOUR WIFE WHEN SHE GETS HERE AND THEREFORE MAKE SURE THAT SHE DOESN;T HAVE TO DEPEND ON SOCIAL ASSISTANCE..I HOPE YOU GOT SUM IDEAS ON WHAT TO DO..WELL I WISHED WE COULD TRADE THE PLACE N PAPERS N ALL EVEN I’M GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM. MY FIANCE IS NOT ALLOWED TO ENTER TO CANADA AND I CAN;T SPONSOR HIM EITHER SINCE I;M ON SOCIAL ASSISTANCE WHICH I HAD TO TAKE SINCE I HAVE A NEWBORN BABY. THAT SUCKS BUT SHOULDN;T GIVE UP SO I’M ALSO FINDING THE BEST WAY I COULD DO. HOPEFULLY !! BUT U GOT A BETTER OPTION ..GO <3
My wife is a Nicaraguan Citizen and a US resident, I am a dual Citizen of the US and CANANDA, I am thinking of moving to Canada. Will my wife have to go through all the b.s paper work to become a Canadian resident as we did in the states to become a US resiedent? Can she just trade the green card for a resident card in Canada?
even by air travel, you don’t need a visa? just the green card? so they will allow you to leave into canada and enter back into the US without any hassle? i just need confirmation because I’ve heard differently…
Yes!!! If you have a US Green Card (if you are a US permanent resident), you CAN enter Canada with your green card only, and do NOT need a visa.
see the following link:
http://www.consular.canada.usembassy.gov/enter_canada.asp
According to this link from US Embassy in Canada http://www.consular.canada.usembassy.gov/enter_canada.asp, US legal permanent resident only need to show his/her “green” card at the border to enter to Canada.
There is a rumor that us residents have to pay 100 dollars at the border to enter Canada. Is this true?
I heard, there have been changes in Canada/US policies/laws for Permanent Resident of US to enter Canada for visiting purpose after June 1, 2009. Is this true? Can a US permanent resident still visit Canada without VISA for visiting purpose (such as for holidays to meet friends and/or families)?
Maria

I'm a green card holder and planning of visiting Canada what do I need. please advice
Why is that permanent resident of the US are allowed to enter Canada without a Canadian visa and permanent residents of Canda require a US visa to enter the US? Security could be the answer, while Canada has nothing to fear. The US always thinks they're higher than everyone else, I wouldn't change my Canadian permanent residence for any other country since we have great benefits and privelages.

The post office where I live disregarded the specs and I know they will come back if I send them to Canada. I need a a professional Passport photographer who knows how specific the Canadian government is about the photos.
